››What is the <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Promotion</strong> <strong>Grant</strong> Scheme?The <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Promotion</strong> <strong>Grant</strong> Scheme is organised in partnership by NIACE Dysgu Cymruand the European Social FundWhat are the aims of the grant?• To promote participation in learning.• To increase access to information, advice and guidance.• To facilitate the organisation of bite-size taster sessionsThe grant is intended to stimulate and promote a cutting-edge programme of learning eventsacross Wales.Funds are available to support promotional or marketing activities or to deliver bite-size taster sessions.A limited number of grants of up to £1,000 are available. If you are successful, your grant will bepaid in two parts - 50% in advance and 50% upon completion of a final report and evaluation.We are looking for activities which are different (eg: they may be located at unusual venues), are ableto reach new audiences and have the potential to gain media interest. Where possible your activityshould link to the key themes which are being promoted under the particular campaign. (see‘ Themes’)Projects which focus on new learners will also be prioritised.Please note - The scheme cannot fund:• Research projects• The production of course materials• Already established coursesWho can apply:We welcome applicants from any group or organisation. We are particularly keen to fund organisationslooking to strengthen partnerships in their area. We would like to support groups who may be workingwith a wide range of agencies and may have the involvement of adult learners as part of the decisionmaking process.Adult learning can impact on every aspect of our lives. Here are some examples of organisations andvenues which have been involved in our campaigns in some way in the past:• Museums & Galleries• Libraries• Schools• Community arts groups• Theatre and arts groups• Football/Rugby Clubs• Cinemas• Hospitals and Health Centres• Leisure Centres• Pubs & Cafés• Local newspapers and radio• Housing associations• Trade unions & employers organisations• Prisons and Probation Services• Residential homes• Job Centres and the Employment Service• Supermarkets and shops• Transport - buses, trains, etc<strong>Grant</strong>s will be targeted at organisations that are working with communities who are currently notaccessing learning opportunities, under the campaign themes:www.alweek.org • www.sunow.org • www.tcontrol.org


Themes:Each of our three campaigns has its own associated themes and/or focus days. For details of these, plusideas for events, please visit the relevant campaign website. These are:• For Taking Control go to www.tcontrol.org• For Adult Learners’ Week go to www.alweek.org• For Sign Up Season go to www.sunow.orgHow to apply:Complete the application form attached, and return it to us by the date specified for the relevantcampaign. Please type or write clearly in black ink as your application will be photocopied.Organisations wishing to apply for grants for more than one campaign should submit separateapplications. i.e one per campaign. Particular attention should be paid to the different themes of eachcampaign. Please visit the relevant campaign website to find the themes.When to apply:You can apply at any time for any campaign grant, but please note that your application will not beassessed until after the deadline for applications for that particular campaign. For application deadlinesplease visit the appropriate campaign website or ring the Campaigns team on 029 2037 0900.Your application will be assessed against other applications, which are in competition for funds.The following factors will be taken into account when assessing applications:• Where appropriate the demonstration of a partnership approach to working.• You should be able to demonstrate match-funding – which can be staff time or otherin-kind resources.• The need to ensure that individuals and communities who are currently not accessing adultlearning opportunities are being targeted.• Innovative and creative proposals – which may reach new audiences.• The involvement of existing learners in the delivery of the project or in the decision makingprocesses.• The existence of a coherent marketing plan which targets local and/or national press and media.• The links to the key themes promoted for the relevant campaign.The Selection Panel will be drawn from theNIACE Dysgu Cymru Steering Group.Deadlines for receipt of applications:• For Taking Control by 30 OCTOBER 2006• For Adult Learners’ Week by 2 MARCH 2007• For Sign Up Season by 29 JUNE 2007www.alweek.org • www.sunow.org • www.tcontrol.org
