<strong>Zoos</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> –becoming the world’sleading zoo-basedconservationorganisation.ABOUT ZOOS VICTORIA<strong>Zoos</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> operates three great zoos:• Melbourne Zoo is a window into the biodiversity of the world’s wildlife and is Australia’s oldest zoo.• Werribee Open Range Zoo is an immersive experience of the African savannah.• Healesville Sanctuary is the home of our important native threatened species programs.<strong>Zoos</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> welcomes over 1.7 million visitors to our three zoos each year, and 160,000 students participatein our education programs.On 1 July 2011, the State Government introduced free admission for children visiting our three zoos duringschool holidays, weekends and public holidays. This announcement is projected to increase visitationsignificantly – conservative estimates indicate an increase of 30%, bringing our visitation to over 2.2 millionpeople per year.There are over 100,000 <strong>Zoos</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> Friends of the <strong>Zoos</strong> Members, who are actively engaged with our zooconservation programs and initiatives. Of these members, 88% are families.There are 720 volunteers – part of Friends of the <strong>Zoos</strong> – and there are 550 <strong>Zoos</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> employees.
