What If?
Every night of the week, Inn from the Cold provides temporary emergency shelter to
families who would otherwise be on the streets. What if it were you and your family?
Where would you go? Who would you turn to for help?

Our Mission
To provide emergency shelter, support and programs to homeless children, their families and others in need, with the
goal of building healthy, stable families and ending homelessness.
Our Vision
A community where no family is homeless.
Years of Help and Hope
Inn from the Cold is here for Calgary’s homeless families. From the struggling single mom with her newborn baby to
the hard-working immigrant who just arrived in Canada, people from all walks of life come to the Inn for help, hope
and compassion when they have nowhere else to go.
Since opening its doors in 1997, Inn from the Cold has helped thousands of children, women and men rebuild their
lives by providing them with the basic necessities of food and shelter while offering hope and guidance to address the
issues that caused their homelessness in the first place.
Through the Inn’s programming and network of other agencies, families can access the programs and support they
require to deal with the issues contributing to their homelessness. These vital relationships ensure our families receive
the best help available and prevent a duplication of services between agencies.
Inn from the Cold supports the Housing First philosophy and recognizes that families who move into appropriate
housing, with the proper supports in place, can break the cycle of homelessness.
In-house programs and support include:
• Overnight shelter – emergency family shelter and community-based temporary emergency shelter program.
• Immediate needs – basic necessities such as food and clothing.
• Case management – resource education, crisis intervention, mental health and addictions support, in-home support
for up to two years to ensure a successful transition to community.
• Housing – transitional and affordable housing referrals, assistance with housing applications.
• Rental assistance, arrears and security deposit – provides monetary assistance under strict criteria to those who
need it.
• Advocacy – speaking up and taking action against the issues surrounding homelessness.

Calgary’s First Emergency Family Shelter
In October 2008, Calgary’s first emergency family shelter opened its doors, offering families a stable
environment to start rebuilding their lives. Here, families can stay together, and children have a safe place
to call home while their parents go through the necessary steps to begin rebuilding their lives and find
hope for the future.
Located at 110 – 11 Avenue SE, the shelter features semi-private rooms for the guests, a playroom, laundry
facilities, storage areas, a large kitchen and a family room where families can spend time relaxing together.
The location also includes the Inn’s administrative staff and offices.
During the day, adults go to work or school or participate in programs. Young children remain with their
parents or go to daycare. School-aged children attend classes at one of our partner schools.
The Inn’s family support workers work closely with the families to identify and resolve the issues that
caused their homelessness – helping to ensure lasting solutions and break the cycle of homelessness.

Donations
We graciously welcome both financial donations and items (such as baby supplies,
bus tickets, toiletries, etc.) that our guests can use. Please contact our office to see
which items are needed most as each season brings special needs.
