Tropical Cyclonerather like an extractor fan, removing the rising air from the top of thetropical cyclone ‘chimney’. A Tropical Depression or Storm passingunder a ridge of high pressure at the 200 hPa level will often develop toHurricane/Typhoon status.e. LITTLE OR NO VERTICAL WIND SHEARSignificant shear prohibits the formation of the warm core thuspreventing development. The critical value is thought to be about 20 knotsbetween 950 and 200 hPa level, wind shear would probably preventtropical cyclone formation I.e. deep easterly component winds extendingto at least 3000ft are necessary for development and such conditions only9
