SUCCESS STORYZyXEL Goes WEFThe World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, is one of the most importantinternational gatherings where political authorities and business leaders meet todiscuss questions of international importance. An event of this magnitude requiresan extensive IT infrastructure. CREATRONIC Media Supply, a Swiss ZyXEL Partner, hasdeployed ZyXEL components to ensure a smooth communication.Maximum ConnectivityDuring the WEF, which takes place in Davosevery year at the end of January, the hotelSteigenberger Belvédère is a hive of activity.Located in the Swiss mountains, the hotelaccommodates political and business leadersbut is also a place for important meetings andconferences. Given these circumstances, it is nosurprise that the existing hotel IT infrastructurecannot cope with the extreme requirementsduring the WEF. In order to enable internationalrepresentatives to work and communicateeffectively, CREATRONIC Media Supply set upa highly complex temporary network solution.Besides installing print and copy equipment, they established a network with wireless orcabled Internet access and VoIP.Business versus RomanceAfter the intervention of the local ZyXEL Partner, about 40 of the 130 romantic hotel roomslooked more like business headquarters. Googlesimply booked the whole hotel SPA area, turningit into an event location. Some rooms alreadyhad Ethernet wiring, others were connected viaan in-house ADSL connexion through a ZyXELDSLAM-IES-1000. In addition, every office wasequipped with a high-performance wirelessconnexion and VoIP via ZyXEL P2612HW routers.André Weigold, CEO of CREATRONIC MediaSupply, told us more about his project:What major challenges did you have to face? The hotel Steigenberger Belvédère itselfrepresented a great challenge, as parts of theexisting infrastructure and connections in thehotel were very old and we first of all had toanalyse the existing wiring in each room todetermine what kind of infrastructure could berealised. That was an extremely time-consumingprocess. Furthermore, we had to install andconfigure about two tons of equipments in avery short time and at the right place. Duringthe WEF, we provided technical support via ahotline. Why did you choose ZyXEL products to carryout this project? For us, ZyXEL has been for many years amanufacturer who really deserves to be takeninto consideration when we are planning suchan important project. ZyXEL products aregood quality and provide an excellent price/performance ratio. On top of that, we know thatwith the ZyXEL team we always have someoneat our side if ever something does not work asit should.I have to say that at the very beginning, thechassis switch of another well-known providerwas actually taken into consideration as well. However, in the end, the choice was quiteobvious: the configuration of the ZyXEL productwas much easier and, as I have said before, ZyXELoffered a better price/performance ratio. What can you tell us about the installation ofthe ZyXEL products? The chassis switch did not work perfectlystraight away (the problem was due to a mistakein the configuration and could be solved thanksto the technical engineers at ZyXEL Switzerlandsupport). During the entire deployment, however, the infrastructure was workingvery smoothly, even though the usage of theinfrastructure was quite heavy at times.Local information: www.zyxel.eu/impulse| 11
