(July 2, 2013)—<strong>Athletic</strong> training students from theMissouri Valley College <strong>Athletic</strong> <strong>Training</strong> Program (ATP) competed<strong>at</strong> the Fifth Annual N<strong>at</strong>ional <strong>Athletic</strong> Trainers’ Associ<strong>at</strong>ion (NATA)<strong>Quiz</strong> <strong>Bowl</strong> on June 26, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Missouri ValleyCollege team competed against nine other academic teamsrepresenting different regions of the United St<strong>at</strong>es.The Missouri Valley College team qualified for this event by virtue oftheir first place finish in the Mid-America <strong>Athletic</strong> Trainers’Associ<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>Quiz</strong> <strong>Bowl</strong> on March 15. The <strong>MVC</strong> team also had asecond place finish <strong>at</strong> the Missouri <strong>Athletic</strong> Trainers’ Associ<strong>at</strong>ion<strong>Quiz</strong> <strong>Bowl</strong> (February 2) on their record this year.The <strong>MVC</strong> ATP team got out to a slow start during the first round.“We took the break between rounds to re-focus and discuss wh<strong>at</strong>adjustments we could make for the second round,” explained <strong>MVC</strong> ATP <strong>Quiz</strong> <strong>Bowl</strong> Captain Ben Snyder.The team’s efforts were rewarded, as they started to accumul<strong>at</strong>e more points and advance up theleadership board.“We felt much more relaxed during the second round,” said <strong>Team</strong> Member Darrell Brooks.At the conclusion of the event, the <strong>MVC</strong> ATP team finished in seventh place only half a point away fromfifth place.“It was not the final result we were hoping for, but we accomplished every goal we set for ourselvesduring this quiz bowl season,” explained <strong>Team</strong> Member Jami Mayberry.“This quiz bowl team was the most successful we have ever had,” explained Clinical Educ<strong>at</strong>ionCoordin<strong>at</strong>or David Tomchuk. “They faced strong teams <strong>at</strong> each competition. They truly enjoyed and willcherish this experience. We would like to thank the N<strong>at</strong>ional <strong>Athletic</strong> Trainers’ Associ<strong>at</strong>ion, the Mid-America <strong>Athletic</strong> Trainers’ Associ<strong>at</strong>ion, the Missouri <strong>Athletic</strong> Trainers’ Associ<strong>at</strong>ion, the Missouri ValleyCollege <strong>Athletic</strong> <strong>Training</strong> Student Organiz<strong>at</strong>ion and Missouri Valley College for the financial support theyhave provided throughout the 2013 <strong>at</strong>hletic training quiz bowl season.”All members of the 2013 <strong>Quiz</strong> <strong>Bowl</strong> <strong>Team</strong> gradu<strong>at</strong>ed in May.
