CFDP is a file transfer protocol,but it also has the capability to route files through a space data system. This configuration issuited to space missions in which most data are transferred as files.Figure 4-10 shows an example <strong>of</strong> protocol configuration on a space link, and figure 4-11shows an example <strong>of</strong> protocol configuration in an end-to-end space data system.In this example, it is assumed that protocol data units <strong>of</strong> CFDP are carried by the <strong>Space</strong>Packet Protocol over the space link, but they can also be carried by SCPS-NP, IP Version 4,or IP Version 6.
