LÉIM – a toolkit for the next generation of dance multi-playersTerms of ReferenceCONTEXTLÉIM is an innovative piece of action research, offering selected participants theopportunity to undertake a personal and collective professional leadershipdevelopment journey in organisations with a high degree of expertise in danceboth in their own countries and the EU.Led by Dance Ireland (IE) in partnership with CSC /Bassano del Grappa (IT),Dance House Lemesos (CY), Mercat de les Flors Barcelona (ES) and TanzHausnrw Düsseldorf (DE), LÉIM is a 2-year cooperation project financed by the EUCulture 2007-2013 Programme.Ten participants (2 from each country) are invited to learn, research,exchange and implement their dance projects while interacting withinnew cultural contexts. Together, and with the support of the hostorganisations and their artistic communities, they will experience bestpractice, share ideas and create new models of working, in order toaddress the core leadership needs of dance artists and dance institutions.Uniquely, selected participants are free to pursue their own ideas within thecontext of LÉIM, which offers professional development opportunities including;training, mentoring, support and encouragement, as well as challenge andpractical engagement. Participants will engage in 3 different modules:MODULE A: Training sessionsMODULE B: Work placementsMODULE C: Project implementationBuilt upon principles of sharing and exchange of artistic and managerialapproaches in the development of dance practices, participants will have accessto an extensive international network of artists, cultural operators and institutionsthrough which they will get the chance to learn and present themselves as activecultural players. Mobility, transfer of knowledge, exchange of information andexposure to different artistic communities, audiences and local contexts are themain principles upon which this professional development opportunity is beingimplemented.Throughout the programme, participants will be supported and guided bydifferent selected mentors, both internal to the organisations and external.

CALENDAR OF WORKING PERIODSMODULE A4 training sessions, taking place between July and November 2013, as follows:1. Dublin (IE): 3-7 July 2013 (travel in/out 3 & 7 July)2. Bassano del Grappa (IT): 16-20 August 2013 (travel in/out 16 & 20 August)3. Düsseldorf (DE): 3-7 September 2013 (travel in/out 3 & 7 September)4. Barcelona (ES): 30 October - 3 November 2013 (travel in/out 30 Oct & 3 Nov).Each session will focus on a specific thematic area of interest, taking into accountand drawing from the existing expertise available in the locality:• Communication and Audiences – Dublin (IE)• Arts between public and private – Bassano del Grappa (IT)• Leadership in an open context – Düsseldorf (DE)• Sustainability and collaboration – Barcelona (ES)These sessions will also be open to a selected number of interested people on alocal level to multiply the positive effects of the project.MODULE BFollowing the initial training sessions, participants are offered a series of 3 workplacements (max 2 weeks each). There will be 2 placements for each participantin addition to a placement in their own country. The nature of the placement willbe discussed among participants and partners, based on the participants’ ownplans and partners’ activities.Module B placements will take place between December 2013 and August 2014.MODULE CThe final session allows the participants to concretely implement their culturalproject at one of the five partner institutions. Participants will be paired and theirproject integrated within each partner country’s own programming.MODULE C projects will take place between August 2014 and May 2015.CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATIONThe selection of the participants will be made together with the five partners bymid June. Selection will be based on each candidate’s written project proposaland CV.Participants should have an open attitude, be interested in working in aninternational team and environment. Ideally selected participants should havesome experience and/or interest in cross-border collaboration and international2

exchange. The working language for the project is English. Participants must haveknowledge of at least 1 other European language.RESPONSIBILITIES & RIGHTSParticipants are required to commit to the full project and will have to sign anagreement of engagement with their respective co-organisers. The agreementcontaining all financial and organisational details will include these Terms ofReference.Fees, travel, accommodation and subsistence are covered for participation in theproject. A baseline budget of €10,000 will be available for the projectimplementation within module C.Each LÉIM Co-organiser is responsible for the organisation of their respectivemodules but continuous assessment among partners and participants is integralpart of the pilot nature of the project.MENTORING/MONITORINGEach partner organisation will act as a facilitator for their participants throughoutthe project. Throughout the working period, participants will have the support ofmentors and experts, both internal to the organisations and external. Externalmentors can be suggested by either the project partners or the participantsthemselves.A blog facility will be provided on the project website to facilitate exchangeamong participants and to allow for a living track of the working process betweenthe different modules.
