LÉIM – a toolkit for <strong>the</strong> next generation <strong>of</strong> dance multi-playersTerms <strong>of</strong> ReferenceCONTEXTLÉIM is an innovative piece <strong>of</strong> action research, <strong>of</strong>fering selected participants <strong>the</strong>opportunity to undertake a personal and collective pr<strong>of</strong>essional leadershipdevelopment journey in organisations with a high degree <strong>of</strong> expertise in danceboth in <strong>the</strong>ir own countries and <strong>the</strong> EU.Led by <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> (IE) in partnership with CSC /Bassano del Grappa (IT),<strong>Dance</strong> House Lemesos (CY), Mercat de les Flors Barcelona (ES) and TanzHausnrw Düsseldorf (DE), LÉIM is a 2-year cooperation project financed by <strong>the</strong> EUCulture 2007-2013 Programme.Ten participants (2 from each country) are invited to learn, research,exchange and implement <strong>the</strong>ir dance projects while interacting withinnew cultural contexts. Toge<strong>the</strong>r, and with <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hostorganisations and <strong>the</strong>ir artistic communities, <strong>the</strong>y will experience bestpractice, share ideas and create new models <strong>of</strong> working, in order toaddress <strong>the</strong> core leadership needs <strong>of</strong> dance artists and dance institutions.Uniquely, selected participants are free to pursue <strong>the</strong>ir own ideas within <strong>the</strong>context <strong>of</strong> LÉIM, which <strong>of</strong>fers pr<strong>of</strong>essional development opportunities including;training, mentoring, support and encouragement, as well as challenge andpractical engagement. Participants will engage in 3 different modules:MODULE A: Training sessionsMODULE B: Work placementsMODULE C: Project implementationBuilt upon principles <strong>of</strong> sharing and exchange <strong>of</strong> artistic and managerialapproaches in <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> dance practices, participants will have accessto an extensive international network <strong>of</strong> artists, cultural operators and institutionsthrough which <strong>the</strong>y will get <strong>the</strong> chance to learn and present <strong>the</strong>mselves as activecultural players. Mobility, transfer <strong>of</strong> knowledge, exchange <strong>of</strong> information andexposure to different artistic communities, audiences and local contexts are <strong>the</strong>main principles upon which this pr<strong>of</strong>essional development opportunity is beingimplemented.Throughout <strong>the</strong> programme, participants will be supported and guided bydifferent selected mentors, both internal to <strong>the</strong> organisations and external.


CALENDAR OF WORKING PERIODSMODULE A4 training sessions, taking place between July and November 2013, as follows:1. Dublin (IE): 3-7 July 2013 (travel in/out 3 & 7 July)2. Bassano del Grappa (IT): 16-20 August 2013 (travel in/out 16 & 20 August)3. Düsseldorf (DE): 3-7 September 2013 (travel in/out 3 & 7 September)4. Barcelona (ES): 30 October - 3 November 2013 (travel in/out 30 Oct & 3 Nov).Each session will focus on a specific <strong>the</strong>matic area <strong>of</strong> interest, taking into accountand drawing from <strong>the</strong> existing expertise available in <strong>the</strong> locality:• Communication and Audiences – Dublin (IE)• Arts between public and private – Bassano del Grappa (IT)• Leadership in an open context – Düsseldorf (DE)• Sustainability and collaboration – Barcelona (ES)These sessions will also be open to a selected number <strong>of</strong> interested people on alocal level to multiply <strong>the</strong> positive effects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> project.MODULE BFollowing <strong>the</strong> initial training sessions, participants are <strong>of</strong>fered a series <strong>of</strong> 3 workplacements (max 2 weeks each). T<strong>here</strong> will be 2 placements for each participantin addition to a placement in <strong>the</strong>ir own country. The nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> placement willbe discussed among participants and partners, based on <strong>the</strong> participants’ ownplans and partners’ activities.Module B placements will take place between December 2013 and August 2014.MODULE CThe final session allows <strong>the</strong> participants to concretely implement <strong>the</strong>ir culturalproject at one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> five partner institutions. Participants will be paired and <strong>the</strong>irproject integrated within each partner country’s own programming.MODULE C projects will take place between August 2014 and May 2015.CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATIONThe selection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> participants will be made toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> five partners bymid June. Selection will be based on each candidate’s written project proposaland CV.Participants should have an open attitude, be interested in working in aninternational team and environment. Ideally selected participants should havesome experience and/or interest in cross-border collaboration and international2


exchange. The working language for <strong>the</strong> project is English. Participants must haveknowledge <strong>of</strong> at least 1 o<strong>the</strong>r European language.RESPONSIBILITIES & RIGHTSParticipants are required to commit to <strong>the</strong> full project and will have to sign anagreement <strong>of</strong> engagement with <strong>the</strong>ir respective co-organisers. The agreementcontaining all financial and organisational details will include <strong>the</strong>se Terms <strong>of</strong>Reference.Fees, travel, accommodation and subsistence are covered for participation in <strong>the</strong>project. A baseline budget <strong>of</strong> €10,000 will be available for <strong>the</strong> projectimplementation within module C.Each LÉIM Co-organiser is responsible for <strong>the</strong> organisation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir respectivemodules but continuous assessment among partners and participants is integralpart <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pilot nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> project.MENTORING/MONITORINGEach partner organisation will act as a facilitator for <strong>the</strong>ir participants throughout<strong>the</strong> project. Throughout <strong>the</strong> working period, participants will have <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong>mentors and experts, both internal to <strong>the</strong> organisations and external. Externalmentors can be suggested by ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> project partners or <strong>the</strong> participants<strong>the</strong>mselves.A blog facility will be provided on <strong>the</strong> project website to facilitate exchangeamong participants and to allow for a living track <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> working process between<strong>the</strong> different modules.
