methodFIRST MAKE YOUR DOUGH – this takes about anhour and a half, so make sure you give yourself plentyof time to prepare (and are not too hungry!)1. Pour the warm water, sugar and yeast into amixing bowl and mix together, then leave to standfor 10-15 minutes, or until a froth is on the surface2. Sift the flour and salt into the mixing bowl andwork all of the ingredients together using your hands3. When it is one ball, take out of the bowl andplace on a flat, floury surface4. Fold and push the dough with the heel of yourpalm until it no longer sticks to your hand – thiscan be hard work! So ask for help if you get tired5. The dough should be smooth and silky. Place itin a clean bowl, cover with a damp tea towel andleave in a warm place for about an hour6. Pre-heat oven to 220/200°C fan oven or gasmark 7This is the perfect time to select and prepare yourtoppings (we have some great tips in ‘Extra Ingredients’)WHAT IS KNEADING?• Kneading is the process where youwork and stretch your dough ingredientsto make your pizza base• When taking your first steps in thekitchen an adult should help with thekneading processBACK TO YOUR DOUGH7. Your dough should now have doubled in size.Take it out of the bowl and place on a flourysurface, then push your fist hard into the dough, turn it over and repeat8. Then, using a floury rolling pin, roll the doughout into a circular shape so that it is 9” in diameter9. Now place your pizza base onto a baking tray, making sure any flour is tapped awayCREATE YOUR PIZZA!10. Spread some tomato purée evenly over your base11. Then scatter your toppings over your base – youcan get creative by making a smiley face or pattern12. Evenly sprinkle your cheese – remember, don’tput too much on, as this makes it hard for thedough to cook all the way through13. Add a pinch of black pepper and, finally, a pinchof oregano14. Place pizza into the oven and cook for 20minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and thebase is crisp and golden brown15. Ask an adult to remove the pizza from the oven, leave to one side on a plate for a few minutes asit will be very hot!WHY DON’T YOU TRY?• If you would like to add some proteinto your pizza, why not add some grilledchicken at the same time as you addthe vegetables?• Finish up your pizza with some freshrocket to give it a cool summer feel
