Welcome to the 15 th Annual Whiskies of the World ®Once again, we have a full range of spirits, whisky seminars, masterclasses,food, cigars and entertainment. Spend the next several hours learning andenhancing your joie de vivre with new experiences. We recommend nosing,tasting and utilizing the dump buckets in order to get the most out of theevening. A 0.25oz. pour is required to nose the spirit, but one only needs asmall sip to taste. A true master will imbibe enough liquid in order to coat andindulge the taste buds whilst experiencing the flavors, after which all liquidis returned to the glass to be dumped. These habitudes may seem novel orstrange to most of us. However, measured tasting and judicious dumping willstretch the palate and enjoyment of the evening much further, rather thandrinking every drop of each sample. The last pour will be at 9:00pm. Enjoythe buffet and avoid indulging in any tasting of alcoholic beverages on anempty stomach. There is plenty of food for multiple servings over the courseof the evening, but please take only what you can eat. To date, they have delivered over$2,000,000 in quick, compassionate care to help reduce financial hardship, improvequality of life and enable people focus on their health and their families.Many people with breast cancer have inadequate or no health insurance. Mostwill be unable to work throughout their treatment, adding a huge financial toll toan already difficult struggle. BCEF’s fast and early intervention prevents financialdeterioration and provides a sense of security during a devastating illness. Whiskies of the World ® guide to writing tasting notesThe following is a guide for evaluating and tasting whisky.1. Appearance, color and observationsSwirl the spirit in the glass. Observe the color, clarity and legs (the tear-droppedstreaks that run down the glass). Slower dripping legs indicate a higher viscositywhich may be an indicator of age.2. Nose: How does the whisky smell?Give the spirit time to breathe. Swirl the spirit in the glass. Exposure to air andtemperature will change the aromas. Always nose spirits with your mouth opento help the aroma roll through your olfactory organ. With the glass angled, moveit up and down in front of your nose. As the glass moves you will detect differentnotes (variants of the aroma).Use the following categories to help you identify different characteristics.Intensity: Neutral, light, medium, pronounced (How fiery is the whisky?)Aroma: Grainy, fruity, flowery, vegetable, botanical, herby, oak, sweet,wood-smoke, tar, iodine, sea-weed, leafy, grassy, leathery,tobacco, beeswax, resin, pine, nutty, cigar-box, honey, vanilla,buttery, sherry, bourbon.3. Palate: How does the whisky taste?This is the initial arrival of the spirit on the palate. Different regions of the tonguedetect different tastes: sweet (on the tip) salty and sour (at the sides) and dry/bitter (at the rear). Allow the spirit to flow completely over the tongue and lingera moment as the sensory receptors work at various speeds, sending signals tothe brain at varying rates.Sweetness: Dry, off-dry, medium, sweetAlcohol: Soft, smooth, warming, harshBody:Light, medium, fullFlavorcharacteristics:Fruity, flowery, vegetable, grainy, botanical, herby, oak,sweet. Finish and Balance:After a few seconds, the Finish and Balance can be described by answers to thefollowing questions:What is left on the palate? Learnthe scientific foundation which is responsible for a great whiskey.Explore the differences between light and straight whiskies and theimportance of choosing a distillation style which complements thegrains, yeast and fermentation.
