The journey will take between 20 mins and half an hour.Note:*timing point at Winchcombe, Abbey TerraceCLEEVE HILLGetting THEREFrom Cheltenham(Mondays to Saturdays) From Royal Well bus station, catch the 606bus at 08:15, 09:00 (Mondays to Fridays only) or 10:00 to Cleeve Hill. Askto be set down at Stockwell Lane. The journey takes about 15 minutes.From there, cross the road, go over the stile next to the gate and makeyour way up across the common. The topograph and trig. point at thesummit are up and slightly <strong>of</strong>f to your right as you stand at the gate.(Sundays and public holidays) From Cheltenham Station forecourt at08:47 or from Clarence Street at 08:59, or half-hourly thereafter, catchthe D bus towards Bishop’s Cleeve. Ask to be set down at WoodmancotePost Office, where you will arrive half an hour later. Stay on the sameside <strong>of</strong> the road and walk forward to the road junction with the triangle<strong>of</strong> green. Turn left into Stockwell Lane. This is 2km/1.25 miles long andclimbs 130m/427 feet, reaching a gradient <strong>of</strong> 1 in 4 (25%) at one place.Where the lane divides after about 1.5km/1 mile, take the left fork. Whenyou reach the top <strong>of</strong> Stockwell Lane there is a viewpoint to your left,if you need to stop and catch your breath. Otherwise, cross the mainroad, go over the stile next to the gate and make your way up acrossthe common. The topograph and trig. point at the summit are up andslightly <strong>of</strong>f to your right as you stand at the gate.Getting BACKThe <strong>Cotswold</strong> <strong>Way</strong> takes you to the summit <strong>of</strong> Cleeve Hill where there isa trig. point and a topograph. A guide for getting back to the bus startsfrom here. Set <strong>of</strong>f in the Chipping Campden direction, following thewaymarkers down the hill and turning right along the line <strong>of</strong> slope. Inabout 275m/300 yards, you will be able to see (and probably hear) theroad below to your left. You should also be able to see a red telephonekiosk on the road and, to the right <strong>of</strong> it, a gate <strong>of</strong>f the common. Makeyour way down across the old quarried area to the gate and overthe stile. From the summit to the stile will probably take you 10 to 15minutes. A diversion to this route is possible.
