We are looking forward to teaching you to become a PADI Pro!

PADI Course Directores:
Ute (born Ute Welcker) has been a Course Director since August 1999 when
she did her CDTC in Newport Beach, CA, USA.
For more than twelve years Ute’s IDCs have been very popular due to their
relaxed atmosphere and the high level of professionalism. Her friendly,
supportive and open way of guiding people through the course gave her
already the respect of many candidates. So far already more than 1.900
candidates achieved their instructor level with her. Ute has been receiving
honors from PADI for her outstanding performance in conducting IDCs and
has been awarded Platinum Frequent Trainer Status since 2006. She even
became “PADI Professional Member of the Month” in December 2010. (CD #
913202)
In July 2010 Miha attended and successfully completed the Course Director
Training Course in Dominican Republic conducted by PADI Worldwide and
already achieved the Frequent Trainer “Platinum” status in his second year as
CD. Miha is a keen underwater photographer, teaching photography and
underwater photography courses, with notable results from regional photo
competitions and contests. He got certified as PADI Tec Deep Instructor
Trainer in July 2011 which allows us to offer Tec Deep range of dive courses,
too. (CD # 948649)
Welcome to Ljubljana
We are happy to assist you with your reservation of accommodation in either Piran at the coast or in
Ljubljana in the center of Slovenia.
Being the capital of Slovenia with over 400.000 inhabitants, Ljubljana is medium sized but still offers
plenty of opportunities for various accommodation ranging from €19 per night on.
Accommodation in Ljubljana comes in many varieties - from budget options, cozy hotels and youth
hostels to family run bed and breakfasts and guest houses with the personal touch of the owner such
as a fresh breakfast with ingredients coming right from the city market.
There are several nice hotels in Ljubljana city, from budget hotels to luxury ones, offering a good
overall standard at affordable prices. Most of the hotels are conveniently located down town, where
all of the culture and night life also happens to be (as an example M Hotel offers a double room with
breakfast from €74 per night).
A cheaper version would be to stay in a youth hostel, where many travelers share one bedroom and
bathroom, holiday apartments in the old town of Ljubljana, but these are few and hard to get or bed
and breakfast with the personal touch of the owner (an excellent choice when coming as a couple of
sharing with a friend). There is a guest house is located in the centre of Ljubljana in the old part, just
near to the open air market under the castle, 15 minutes away from the railway station.
For information and reservation please contact Igor Vrhovec via Email: igor@norik-sub.si

Piran is a beautiful old costal town with an obvious Italian architectural influence. Some people even
say the narrow streets remind them of Venice. The airport of Trieste is half an hour, whereas airports
of Ljubljana or Venice are an hour and a half away.
Piran offers various possibilities from private rooms, apartments to hotels, like Youth Hostel Val,
Hotel Tartini or Hotel Piran. You could as well stay in the modern holiday resort of Portorož, less than
15 minutes away. A little tourist bus connects Portorož and Piran.
The guest houses in Piran are all located very close to the diving center with less than 10 min walking
distance. They all offer nice clean rooms (bath, shower, TV, some also AC) and good food, as well as
enough space.
Welcome to Piran
A cheaper version would be to rent apartments with self-service, which means no served breakfast.
You have to prepare food for yourself or eat in the local pubs and restaurants. If you are on a tight
budget you could share such an apartment with one or two people from the IDC. This way you could
stay overnight for prices around 15.- € per person and night including taxes.
For information and reservation please contact Marjan Makuc via Email: marjan.makuc@sub-net.si

The Dive Center in Ljubljana
Norik Sub is located in Ljubljana and in Piran on the coast. The dive shop in Ljubljana is located in the
largest indoor pool in the "Tivoli" park in the center of Ljubljana. Dive shop offers a variety of dive
gear as well as the possibility to use the pool for training.
The location also offers a use of a classroom. Open water training dives are done in the lakes in the
vicinity of Ljubljana or in Piran on the coast.
Norik Sub's facility in Ljubljana offers perfect conditions for our MSDT programs as well as IDC and
EFRI. Easy logistic and the flexibility with locations makes our work relaxed and effective.
The indoor pool in Tivoli, if the program is partly running in Ljubljana, is heated to 28 °C, which is
especially comfortable during the cooler season.

© Ute & Miha Frlec
The Dive Center in Piran
The second dive center in the Norik Sub group is located in Piran on the coast, right next to Cape
Maddona with a wonderful sea view and a with a series of cafes right in the front to sit down and
enjoy the sunshine.
There are also several restaurants next to the dive center and there are good possibilities to get
some food in the breaks during the IDC.
The location in Piran offers the use of two classrooms and excellent facilities right next to the beach.
Confined and open water training sessions are done in front of the dive center door in the Adriatic
sea with the water temperature ranging from 15 C in the winter months to 25 C during summer.
Norik Sub's facilities offer perfect conditions for our IDC Programs. Easy logistic and the flexibility
with locations makes our work relaxed and effective. The location also gives the possibility to offer
Tec training, MSDT programs with wreck diving, great underwater photo opportunities and more.
If the weather conditions are not so nice during the winter months there is also the possibility to use
an indoor pool 20 min away from Piran.

If you arrive in Piran a few days in advanced you have the possibility to join a PADI Instructor during
an Open Water Course, this is a good way to get prepared.
Or jump in a lake or pool with a buddy and practice the demonstration of all 24 skills out of the PADI
Open Water Diver Course as you did during your Divemaster Training Course. Remember that your
demo should be slow, exaggerating and easy looking.
Or join our IDC preparation program, starting one day before the IDC. Here we are going through
rescue skills, dive master theory and the skill demonstration. This is a good fresh up and creates a
more relaxed atmosphere. AND: You’ll get to know the staff and other participants already.
Or – using the revised IDC curriculum you can start a part of your
Instructor Development Course online:
There are a couple of things you could prepare in advance before your IDC starts. You can either
refresh your theory knowledge using the "PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook" and the "PADI
Encyclopedia" or you log on to the PAD webpage eLearning section under:
http://www.padi.com/elearning-scuba-registration/default.aspx?irra=9985
and choose to study the "dive theory" online.
IDC
Your own preparation
Apart from studying the dive theory online you can as well start the following IDC sections online
using the same link above but choosing “idc online” on the PADI webpage:
a. Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
b. General Standards and Procedures
c. Risk Management
d. Marketing Diving
e. Start Diving
f. Teaching PADI Specialty Diver Courses
g. Business of Diving
h. Keep Diving
i. How to Teach the Recreational Dive Planner (RDP) – required for crossover candidates;
optional for PADI Members
You can complete those independent learning sections online through PADI eLearning, or as
well participate in these sections during your IDC.
Our business is introducing people with a dream to a new career and helping to ensure your
professional success. The goal of our IDC program is simple: We will ensure that you the future PADI
professional diving instructor will be well prepared to work in the recreational diving industry. Almost
anyone can train you to pass the IE; we want to train you to get a job. The IDC includes many useful
workshops that will make candidates more prepared for the "real world" after passing the IE.
During the IDC we will provide you all the knowledge you need to feel safe and comfortable while
conducting presentations in the classroom, pool or open water. Practical workshops, hints and
suggestions as well as the correct use of the PADI Instructor Manual will make you more familiar with
the PADI standards & procedures in all different kind of courses.
It’s okay to do mistakes, no problem. We are there to positive reinforce you or provide help
wherever needed. Our frequent counseling during the course will make it easy for you to improve
yourself and feel more self confident as an upcoming instructor.
The IDC program of PADI is split in three parts. It starts with the "Self study Section" which can be
done online using PADI eLearning or in Person during the first 2 days of your IDC. The part of the
“Assistant Instructor” course follows right after and then we go on directly to the “Open Water Scuba
Instructor” part of the IDC course.
Instructors who are already certified on instructor leadership level with another recreational dive
training organization (SSI, NAUI, CMAS, IDEA, PSS, etc.) just need to join our OWSI program described
later in here.
IE „Instructor Experience“
Professional Instructor Examiners from PADI EMEA conduct IEs to confirm that instructor candidates
meet the requirement for their certification as a PADI Instructors.
The IE is a two-day program that evaluates your diving knowledge and skills, as well as your ability to
deliver teaching presentations in the classroom, confined water and open water. Although the
evaluation is pass/fail, you have the opportunities to retake most initial presentations, if necessary.
With the preparation you get from us during the IDC and some additional independent study the
likelihood of successfully completing your first IE is very high.
Some dive centers guarantee you to pass an IE - we prefer to guarantee you a high quality instructor
course, since this is the only part we can influence.
The IE is split in four parts:
1. Written Exams ( Dive theory - 60 Questions (5x12) & Standards 50 Questions)
2. Knowledge Development Presentation (prescriptive)
3. Teaching in Confined Water (Presentation of one Skill & 5 Skills out of the Skill Circuit)
4. Teaching in Open Water (Presentations of two Skills & Rescue Demo No. 7)
Welcome to a new comfortable dive adventure!
As a recreational diver we are used to having a regulator in our mouth all the time and breathing
through the nose is not possible wearing a normal diving mask. This is different while diving with a
full face mask! You will find yourself breathing like on the surface and discover yourself enjoying this
new possibility. Additional you will experience a fantastic field of view while diving.
Depending in which conditions you dive you will benefit as well on temperature protection. This
great advantages is appreciates especially in cold water diving and makes your adventure more
enjoyable - especially in winter times.
You are a full face mask Instructor already? Find additional challenges here!
During this course we want to introduce you to how you can effectively communicate underwater
using OCEAN REEFs communications network (SUB T, SUB R & SURF). We all respect that silence is
one of the most appealing features in this sport but we cannot deny that additional communication
can sometimes have implications in terms of safety, research, teaching or simply human interaction.
People who work underwater need to communicate with their colleagues (on the surface or under-
water), both for logistical support and safety. As a dive professional your intension to dive is not only
leisure but to do a great job underwater providing feedback to your students and keeping a safe
supervision. These communications tools will help you to provide this, especially in conditions with
lower visibility.
