Three exceptionalshows are opening alongside these “StorieS of Tennis”:“hervé di rosa”,“invitation on a journey”, as well as the “Crazy racquets!”created by jean-Philippe Bertrand.The permanent exhibition: “StorieS of Tennis”The Museum of the French Tennis Federation boasts a new look for thestart of the 2012 tournament. At the end of the 1980s,he decided totake a trip around the world. At each step along the way,he painted “inthe style of” and according to the inspiration of whereverhe happened tobe. From the Northerncoast to the Riviera, from inland to the Atlantic coastline, whether in Brittanyor in Normandy, the Museum of the French Tennis Federation will houseapproximately fifty posters, on exhibit from the start of the tournament,and ten of which are of large format, having marked their era. All havesomething in common: the systematic presence of the game of tennis,whether it is the courts, the balls or the racquets, the recurring theme wasused to promote seaside resorts, spas or health resorts.Transformed into a giant map of France, the big exhibition hall at theMuseum regroups important works of some of the most well-known artistsof the discipline: René Péan, André Galland, Roger Broders, Léon Benigni,Géache or still Cassandre.Tourism posters from the belle époque all have their own esthetic codes.Stylized title blocks and very visible lettering reinforce images andinformation. Landscapes of the regions are celebrated in these very loyalreproductions, or natives in traditional outfits who are often representedin the forefront. But sometimes,some of those racquets never make it to the courts and live an entirelydifferent existence. Whether a passing reference, humoristic or poetic,the “crazy racquets’” are fragments of a philosophy of life… that of Jean-Philippe Bertrand. A multifaceted artist, halfway between Arman andMarcel Duchamp, he amuses himself with form, where rhyme and playon words take shape in these deflected racquets. Approximately twentymodels will be shown in the exhibit honoring his work, which is open tothe public from the beginning of the tournament. And the racquet is clearlythe star of the show.
