NNTU Vision Over four years ago, NNTU envisioned bringingVOIP-Voice over Internet Protocol to the NavajoNation. VoIP, simply put is telephone service overthe internet. NNTU vision has become a reality. NNTU could not of done it alone. With the help ofkey players and partners we are seeing the fruitsof our labor.

“New” Managed IP TelephonyServiceNNTU successfully contracted a 5-year renewableManaged IP Telephony (MIPT) service from NavajoCommunication Company (Frontier):MIPT service cost approximately half the cost of currentCentrex service.Frontier supplying all IP Phones Types Cisco SPA504G-Standard Phone Cisco SPA509G-Supervisor and Front Desk Phone Cisco SPA525G2-High Level Management Phone Cisco SPA500S-Expansion Module Polycom IP Sound Station 5000-Conference PhoneInclude installation of CAT6 wiring where neededProvides for hands on IP Telephony User Training“Connecting and Energizing the Nation”

So Why MIPT? Three Main reasons:1) Cost Average cost now is about $35 per phone (includingfeatures) per month, IP cost is $12.99 for most phones. With IP Telephony many service changes can be doneby users compared to the current telco charge for mostchanges on Centrex. Savings of $14.25 per changerequest for each line. Voice Mail included in IP Telephony package. Savingsof up to $4.95 per month on Centrex phones.“Connecting and Energizing the Nation”

So Why MIPT…2) Technology It’s not a matter of “if” but “when” – old technology willbe phased out. IP Telephony has powerful network diagnostics. Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network(WAN) upgrades part of NNTU implementation.“Connecting and Energizing the Nation”

So Why MIPT..3) Capabilities to communicate better, moreconveniently, and more effectively Telephones can be anywhere on IP network. New phones have capability of multiple lines (viewstatus of other phones), button access to features, speaker phone. Powerful management control of telephones throughonline tools and reports.“Connecting and Energizing the Nation”

NNTU Funded costs NNTU requested additional funding and receivedinitial outlay for the Window Rock phase. Realizedsavings from new service will fund a portion offuture implementation. For most sites, NNTU will pay for: IP Phones Wiring upgrades Network equipment for voice service Monthly MIPT service cost for 871 and 810.
