Speciality Beersfrom EuropeHopfenkönig (Schloss Eggenberg/Austria) 5.1% 33cl £3.95Hopfenkönig is a pils style beer with a delicate flavour, fermentedand subsequently matured for twelve weeks in the historic cellars ofEggenberg. Eggenberg once belonged to a Benedictine monasterybut has since been in the possession of the family Forstinger-Stöhrfor over 200 years. Beer has been brewed in Schloss Eggenbergsince the 14th century and the ‘liquid bread’ was producedexclusively for the inhabitants of the area at that time.Menabrea 1846 (Menabrea/Italy) 4.8% 33cl £3.95A premium strength lager beer, with a full flavour and distinctive,light colour. Brewed in Italy’s oldest brewery at the foothills ofthe Italian Alps, this pilsner-style lager is truly a beer drinker’sbeer. Additive free, it is the only Italian lager still brewed usinga completely natural “slow fermentation” process, that makes useof spring water from the Alps and ingredients from the CzechRepublic, Germany and France.Wines & Speciality BeersEastgate Ale (Weetwood Ales/Cheshire) 4.2% 50cl £5.75This golden ale from the Cheshire brewery Weetwood is brewedto commemorate the centenary of Chester’s Eastgate Clock. Thefruity foretaste is followed by a mellow, acceptable finish of hops.Westons Organic Cider (Westons/England) 6.5% 50cl £5.95Westons have been producing cider in the Herefordshire villageof Much Marcle for 130 years. The Organic Cider has won the2001 IFE Gold Award and been voted “Best Alcoholic Drink” atthe Organic Food Awards in 1998, 2003 and 2004. It is an easydrinking cider with a ripe apple aroma and a well balanced fruityflavour.Bohemia Regent Draught (Regent/Czech Republic) 5% 1 /2 pint £2.25“Let us make merry, with our hop and ale, it has God’s verystrength, so soon all shall be well.” This verse is written on theentrance to one of the oldest beer breweries in the world. Notmany breweries in Europe can be as proud of their heritage as thebrewery in Trebon which was founded in 1379. A premium beerwith a nice hoppy taste and of medium bitterness that gives thisbeer good drinkability and makes it therefore very popular.Orval Trappist Ale (Orval/Belgium) 6.2% 33cl £4.95Orval, often referred to as The Queen of Trappists, was firstmade in 1931, and has a complex and unusual flavour and aromaproduced by a unique strain of yeast. The beer is light in colour,slightly cloudy, and has a large, foamy head. As with all otherTrappist breweries, the beer is only sold in order to financiallysupport the monastery and some other good causes. All of theprofits from the sale of the beer are distributed to charities and forcommunity development around the region.
