ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE(APN)/POST-LICENSUREThe MSN-APN curriculum includes core courses, and additional specialty courses that vary byconcentration. The APN core coursework, as specified in the Essentials of Masters Educationfor Advanced Practice Nursing (2011), include: N231, Advanced Pathophysiology; N224,Advanced Pharmacology; and N 440, Advanced Assessment and Clinical Diagnosis. Thesecourses are presented in the table below. The number of directly supervised clinical practicehours required for the degree ranges from 600-1590. Please note: While 300 clinical hoursin the CNS role is required currently for completion of the dual NP/CNS program, it is highlyrecommended that dual NP/CNS students complete a minimum of 500 clinical hours in theCNS role to insure their eligibility to sit for national certification exams.
