A Message from the PresidentIt is a pleasure to present the 2009 Mercy College Annual Report. It has been a remarkable year for Mercy College. Thanks to the contributionsof our Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, we have continued to strengthen theCollege in a myriad of areas, building upon our core mission of providing anaffordable, high quality education to our students.Mercy College is experiencing an exciting period of progress. Several initiatives thatwere launched in 2009 have taken root and have exhibited solid success this year. The Personalized Achievement Contract (PACT) has expanded to include morethan half of the 2009 incoming freshmen class, which has exceeded our goal. Our new Library Learning Commons was completed this fall and now providesmore efficient and streamlined access to services for students in one centrallocation. Enrollment has grown to be the largest freshmen class on our fivecampuses in a decade.Within this report you will read about the highlights of the past year. As we lookto the future, our direction is guided by the Five-Year Strategic Plan 2009 – 2014,shaped by our core values:n a belief in the potential of human beings to transform themselves through aquality education;n a commitment to an inclusive environment that celebrates the diversity ofits members;n an understanding of the value of a liberal arts education in the developmentof intellectual capacities, ethics, diverse perspectives and the free exchangeof ideas;n a recognition of the role of faculty scholarship to the development ofquality pedagogies and research; andn an understanding that through our interactions, our service and ouroutreach to students we make a distinctive impact. As president, I am greatly enthused by what I see at Mercy College: a facultydedicated to delivering quality education; a staff that is committed to excellence;a student body that is motivated and focused on achievement; and extraordinarilygenerous donors.
