A. Duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet<strong>The</strong> duties, responsibilities and privileges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet are detailed in Corpora IV. H.Article II. B. Duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>1) <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall use <strong>The</strong>ir power to defend and protect <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> and <strong>the</strong>Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir.2) <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall work to see that justice is done and that <strong>the</strong> glory that is <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Summits</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir is in no way diminished.3) <strong>The</strong> Coronet agrees to allow personal access in<strong>for</strong>mation to be published in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial Kingdomand <strong>Principality</strong> publications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc. (<strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes) and on <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong>website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.4) <strong>The</strong> Coronet may delegate unto any subject <strong>the</strong> execution <strong>of</strong> Coronet power <strong>for</strong> a stated specificpurpose such as transmission <strong>of</strong> an award to a person properly named and selected.5) <strong>The</strong> Coronet will render an Oath <strong>of</strong> Fealty <strong>for</strong> <strong>The</strong>ir lands at each Coronation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sovereignand Consort <strong>of</strong> An Tir. This Oath may be delivered by letter, but must be renewed in person at<strong>the</strong> first opportunity.6) <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall provide a report on <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> to <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong> An Tir at eachCoronation. Copies shall be sent to <strong>the</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist, as applicable and may be sent to<strong>the</strong> Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschals.Article II. C. Coronet Lists1) <strong>The</strong> Coronet Lists shall be fought at two Coronet Tournaments per year.a. Spring Coronet Tournament – A weekend no sooner than <strong>the</strong> weekend be<strong>for</strong>e <strong>the</strong>Vernal Equinox and no later <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> last weekend in March.b. Fall Coronet Tournament – Third weekend in September.2) All Combatants and consorts must be paid members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> Creative Anachronism,Inc. and have access to <strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes at <strong>the</strong>ir place <strong>of</strong> residence.3) All combatants and consorts entering <strong>the</strong> Coronet List <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> must bea minimum <strong>of</strong> eighteen years <strong>of</strong> age.6


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 20134) Combatants in <strong>the</strong> Coronet List must be a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>for</strong> at least 1 year and mustlive within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir reign. <strong>The</strong> Coronet may grantexceptions to this requirement, if requested in advance and if <strong>the</strong> Coronet is satisfied that <strong>the</strong>combatant and consort will meet all obligations.5) All authorized fighters who meet residency requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> have<strong>the</strong> right to compete in <strong>the</strong> Coronet List, unless <strong>the</strong>y are denied entry by <strong>the</strong> Coronet or are inviolation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet List, <strong>the</strong> governing documents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> or modern law jurisdiction.6) Both combatant and consort will present <strong>the</strong>mselves to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal and Minister<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lists to confirm membership and authorization status. Combatant will present currentSCA Membership and Fighter Authorization Cards and <strong>the</strong> Consort will present a current SCAMembership Card, confirming that both are eligible based upon Membership requirements put<strong>for</strong>th in Corpora. Once confirmed, <strong>the</strong> combatant’s name may be entered in <strong>the</strong> Coronet List.7) All combatants and consorts must be present on <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> List and presented to <strong>the</strong>Coronet. <strong>The</strong> decision as to <strong>the</strong> acceptability <strong>of</strong> each participant rests solely with <strong>the</strong> Coronetand is final.8) By entering <strong>the</strong> Coronet List, a combatant declares that s/he has a consort <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> oppositegender who has agreed to reign with <strong>the</strong>m, should <strong>the</strong> combatant win; however should <strong>the</strong>Crown <strong>of</strong> An Tir elect to allow same sex couples in <strong>the</strong> Royal lists, <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>the</strong>n has <strong>the</strong>option to allow same sex couples in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Coronet list.9) No combatant may fight <strong>for</strong> more than one prospective consort and no person may have morethan one combatant fighting <strong>for</strong> him/her in a given Coronet List. During <strong>the</strong> invocation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Coronet List, all combatants and consorts shall declare that <strong>the</strong>y:a. Are loyal to <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong> An Tir and <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>b. Will uphold <strong>the</strong> laws <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>c. Will respect <strong>the</strong> customs and traditions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir and <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Summits</strong>.10) No one shall compete <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet without intending to reign should <strong>the</strong>y win.11) Both combatant and consort are aware that <strong>the</strong> positions <strong>of</strong> Prince and Princess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>may require expenditures in excess <strong>of</strong> membership fees and allowable reimbursements. Nei<strong>the</strong>r<strong>the</strong> Prince nor <strong>the</strong> Princess may fight or be fought <strong>for</strong> in <strong>the</strong> Coronet List.Article II. D. Combat Conventions1) <strong>The</strong> Coronet List Combat Conventions shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Coronet.2) <strong>The</strong> Combat Conventions will be published to <strong>the</strong> populace four weeks prior to <strong>the</strong> CoronetTournament in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> publications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc (<strong>The</strong> Crier and<strong>The</strong> Echoes) and on <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong> website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.Article II. E. List Victory, Investiture <strong>of</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist (Tanista)1) Upon victory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet Tournament, <strong>the</strong> victor and consort shall, within ten days, providepro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> SCA Memberships through <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir reign as Prince and Princess to <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal must verify memberships.7


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 20132) Upon victory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet Tournament, <strong>the</strong> victor and consort shall be invested as <strong>the</strong>Coronet Heirs and titled Tanist and ban Tanist (or Tanista) as per custom.3) <strong>The</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist shall swear fealty to <strong>the</strong> populace <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> and obedience to<strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>. <strong>The</strong>se oathsshall be witnessed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal, Bleu Grael Herald, <strong>Principality</strong> Earl Marshal,<strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Champions and such members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Peerage who attend CoronetTournament.4) Upon victory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet Tournament, <strong>the</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist shall declare that <strong>the</strong>y willattend <strong>The</strong>ir Investiture, preside over <strong>the</strong> activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following Coronet Tournament andattend <strong>the</strong> Investiture <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong>ir successors.Article II. F. Investiture <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet Heirs – Tanist and ban Tanist1) <strong>The</strong> Investiture <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet Heirs (Tanist and ban Tanist) shall take place at a <strong>Principality</strong>Coronet Investiture. <strong>The</strong> two Coronet Investitures shall take place on <strong>the</strong> weekend closest to <strong>the</strong>following calendar dates:a. Summer Investiture – Summer Solsticeb. Winter Investiture (11 th Night) – two weeks prior to Winter Solstice2) At <strong>The</strong>ir Investiture, <strong>the</strong> Coronet Heirs (Tanist and ban Tanist) shall swear fealty to <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong>An Tir and obedience to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> An Tir. Should <strong>the</strong> Crown not be present toaccept <strong>the</strong>ir oaths, written oaths shall be sent to <strong>the</strong> Crown upon Investiture and spoken oathssworn in-person at <strong>the</strong> first opportunity.3) At <strong>The</strong>ir Investiture, <strong>the</strong> Coronet Heirs (Tanist and ban Tanist) shall swear fealty to <strong>the</strong> RoyalPeers, Peers and populace <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.4) <strong>The</strong> Coronet Heirs (Tanist and ban Tanist) shall be Invested with <strong>the</strong> Customary InvestitureCeremony <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prince and Princess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.5) <strong>The</strong> Coronet Heirs (Tanist and ban Tanist) shall be allowed to create a “persona” correctInvestiture Ceremony; however, it must contain all <strong>the</strong> customary oaths and ceremoniescontained in <strong>the</strong> Investiture Ceremony <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prince and Princess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Summits</strong>.Article II. G. Tournament Invalidation, Failure to Invest1) Should, <strong>for</strong> any reason, a Coronet Tournament be declared invalid or <strong>the</strong> Tanist and ban Tanistelect to abdicate directly or abdicate by failure to appear or respond <strong>for</strong> <strong>The</strong>ir Investiture, aCoronet List shall be called <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Saturday morning <strong>of</strong> Coronet Investiture.2) A Coronet Investiture Tournament shall be open to those who were eligible and competed in<strong>the</strong> previous Coronet List and who currently meet eligibility requirements as stated in<strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong>.3) <strong>The</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist who abdicate are explicitly excluded as both combatants and consortsfrom <strong>the</strong> Coronet Investiture Tournament List.4) Any person or persons whose actions or inactions were <strong>the</strong> grounds <strong>for</strong> an invalidation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Coronet Tournament are explicitly excluded as both combatant and consort from <strong>the</strong> CoronetInvestiture.8


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 2013Article II. H. Abdication1) A letter from <strong>the</strong> Tanist and/or ban Tanist to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal indicating intent toabdicate constitutes <strong>of</strong>ficial abdication and will be in effect immediately upon receipt. A lettermust be sent Certified, Return Receipt Requested through <strong>the</strong> United States Postal Service to<strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal’s current address.2) An e-mail sent from <strong>the</strong> Tanist and/or ban Tanist to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal’s e-mail accountindicating intent to abdicate constitutes <strong>of</strong>ficial abdication and will be in effect immediatelyupon au<strong>the</strong>ntication and confirmation <strong>of</strong> receipt by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal.Article II. I. Failure to Reign1) Should ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Prince or Princess be unable to complete <strong>the</strong> reign, <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r shall assume <strong>the</strong>duties <strong>of</strong> both <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> remainder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> reign.2) Should both Prince and Princess be unable to complete <strong>the</strong> reign, administrative duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Coronet shall fall to <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Coronet shall revert to <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong>An Tir until such time as a Coronet List may be held.3) Failure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prince and Princess to attend a required Coronet event constitutes failure to reignand shall be taken as abdication unless <strong>the</strong> failure to attend is beyond <strong>the</strong> control <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronetand no failure to reign is demonstrated.Article II. J. <strong>The</strong> Regent1) In <strong>the</strong> event that <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> is unable to conclude <strong>The</strong>ir reign or haveabdicated, <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall serve as Regent.2) If <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> cannot fulfill <strong>the</strong> Regent’s duties, <strong>the</strong> Crown shall select <strong>the</strong> mostsuitable person to serve as Regent. In this instance, <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> may not fightor be fought <strong>for</strong> in <strong>the</strong> next Coronet Tournament.3) <strong>The</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Regent are:a. <strong>The</strong> Regent shall not have <strong>the</strong> authority to amend or change <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong><strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> or to bestow awards.b. If <strong>the</strong> Coronet has <strong>of</strong>ficially abdicated without Coronet Heirs, <strong>the</strong> Regent shall invest <strong>the</strong>Coronet victor and consort <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> next Coronet Tournament as Prince and Princessimmediately.c. <strong>The</strong> Regent may not fight or be fought <strong>for</strong> in <strong>the</strong> Coronet List.d. If <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong>ficially abdicates after a successful Coronet Tournament, <strong>the</strong> Regentshall invest <strong>the</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist as Prince and Princess at <strong>the</strong> next scheduledInvestiture Event.Article II. K. Coronet Finances1) <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall be reimbursed <strong>for</strong> allowable expenses as defined in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Summits</strong>’ Financial Policy2) <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall have access to and may utilize <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>’ Travel Fund and Gryphon TravelFund as defined in <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy.3) <strong>The</strong> Tanist and ban Tanist shall be reimbursed <strong>for</strong> allowable expenses as defined in <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy.9


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 20134) <strong>The</strong> Coronet, Tanist and ban Tanist shall be exempt from all <strong>Summits</strong> Coronet, <strong>Principality</strong> andBranch Event Fees, as defined in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy.Article III.OFFICERS OF COURT AND STATEArticle III. A. Officer ResponsibilitiesAll Officers <strong>of</strong> Court and State shall:1) Be paid members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA Inc. and have access to <strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes at <strong>the</strong>ir place <strong>of</strong>residence.2) Be at least eighteen years <strong>of</strong> age.3) Be a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> and reside within <strong>the</strong> principality <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir term <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice, or be acceptable to <strong>the</strong> Coronet.4) Execute <strong>the</strong> lawful commands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong> An Tir and <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> and abideby Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and policies.5) Carry out additional duties as are appropriate to <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice and/or as directed by <strong>the</strong> Coronet.6) Agree to allow personal contact in<strong>for</strong>mation to be published in <strong>of</strong>ficial Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong>publications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc. (<strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes) and on <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong> website(s) asdefined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.7) Be exempt from site fees at all Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Events.8) Attend <strong>the</strong> four Coronet Events each year (Spring Coronet, Summer Investiture, Fall Coronet andWinter Investiture), unless receiving exemption from <strong>the</strong> Coronet.9) Officers <strong>of</strong> Court must attend <strong>the</strong> event where <strong>the</strong>ir successor is chosen, if not a Coronet Event.10) Attend Curia and Moot at each Coronet Event.11) No <strong>Principality</strong> Officer may hold more than one <strong>of</strong>fice at a time (ie: a branch and/or aprincipality and/or a kingdom <strong>of</strong>fice at <strong>the</strong> same time). Exceptions may be granted by both <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> relevant superior <strong>of</strong>ficers, in writing, with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet (in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> anOfficer <strong>of</strong> Court) or <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal (in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> an Officer <strong>of</strong> State) on a case-bycasebasis.Article III. B. Officers <strong>of</strong> Court – <strong>Principality</strong> Champions1) <strong>Principality</strong> Champions are considered <strong>the</strong> Officers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Royal Court.a. <strong>Principality</strong> Champions are selected through competition ra<strong>the</strong>r than by appointment.b. Entrants in any <strong>Principality</strong> Championship Tournament or Competition must beresidents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>for</strong> one year prior to <strong>the</strong> Championship and live within <strong>the</strong>principality <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir term <strong>of</strong> service, or be acceptable to <strong>the</strong> Coronet.c. All <strong>Principality</strong> Champions’ terms <strong>of</strong> service shall be <strong>for</strong> a period <strong>of</strong> one year or until <strong>the</strong>next applicable Championship is held.d. Should a <strong>Principality</strong> Champion become an Heir to <strong>the</strong> Crown or Coronet, that championshall surrender <strong>the</strong> Championship and in all cases <strong>the</strong> Coronet shall appoint a suitablereplacement.e. In addition to Article III.A.7, <strong>Principality</strong> Champions shall be exempt from event fees <strong>for</strong><strong>the</strong> Championship at which <strong>the</strong>ir successor will be chosen.f. <strong>Principality</strong> Champions may not hold <strong>Principality</strong> Greater Offices.2) All <strong>Principality</strong> Champions shall:a. Swear an Oath <strong>of</strong> Fealty or Oath <strong>of</strong> Service to <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.b. Support <strong>the</strong> Coronet in war and take <strong>the</strong> field at <strong>the</strong> Coronet’s command.10


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 2013c. Speak or act in <strong>the</strong> Coronet’s name when specifically delegated to do so.d. Fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> interests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir area <strong>of</strong> endeavor.e. Have a place at <strong>the</strong> High Table <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Champion and a guest.f. Stand armed near <strong>the</strong> Coronet at all events.g. Bear and display <strong>the</strong> regalia <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir position.h. Announce <strong>the</strong> rules and guidelines, <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Championship Tournament/Competition thatchooses <strong>the</strong>ir successor, at <strong>Principality</strong> Courts.i. Publish <strong>the</strong> rules and guideline <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Championship Tournament/Competition in <strong>the</strong><strong>of</strong>ficial principality publications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc. (<strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes) and on <strong>the</strong><strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong> website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.3) Designations <strong>of</strong> Champions:a. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall determine and create such Titled Champions as <strong>the</strong>y deem necessary.b. <strong>The</strong> current Champions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> are:i. Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> (Heavy Champion)ii. Alpine Scholar (Arts and Sciences Champion)iii. Captain <strong>of</strong> Eagles (Archery Champion)iv. Captain <strong>of</strong> Cats (Rapier Champion)v. Outrider <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> (Equestrian Champion)vi. Bard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> (Bardic Champion)Article III. C. Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> – <strong>Summits</strong> Heavy Champion1) <strong>The</strong> combatant who is victorious in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Heavy Champion Tournament shall bear <strong>the</strong>title <strong>of</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.2) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Heavy Champion Tournament will be held in conjunction with June Investiture andshall end with <strong>the</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.3) Should <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> be unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> obligations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position or isvictorious in a Crown or Coronet List, s/he shall resign <strong>the</strong> title to <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shallappoint a suitable person to serve as Defender until <strong>the</strong> next Defender’s List.4) <strong>The</strong> duties and privileges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall be:a. Accompany and defend <strong>the</strong> Coronet.b. Act as Bearer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>’ Sword <strong>of</strong> State.c. Promote and encourage honour, chivalry, and martial prowess throughout <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong>.d. Upon abdication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Defender shall act as Regent asdefined in Article II.J.e. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Earl Marshal to determine <strong>the</strong> conventions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> HeavyChampion Tournament and to plan, organize and conduct <strong>the</strong> Defender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>Tournament with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.Article III. D. Alpine Scholar – <strong>Summits</strong> Arts and Sciences Champion1) <strong>The</strong> individual who is judged victorious in <strong>the</strong> Arts and Sciences championship shall bear <strong>the</strong> titleAlpine Scholar.2) <strong>The</strong> Arts and Sciences championship will be held <strong>the</strong> weekend <strong>of</strong> 11 th Night Winter Investitureand shall end with <strong>the</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Arts and Sciences Champion.3) <strong>The</strong> Arts and Sciences Championship Competition shall be <strong>of</strong> a kind that promotes a broad range<strong>of</strong> knowledge in two or more areas in <strong>the</strong> Arts and Sciences ra<strong>the</strong>r than expertise in onediscipline.11


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 20134) Should <strong>the</strong> Alpine Scholar be unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> obligations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position or is victorious in aCrown or Coronet List, s/he shall resign <strong>the</strong> title to <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall appoint asuitable person to serve as Champion until <strong>the</strong> next Arts and Sciences ChampionshipCompetition.5) <strong>The</strong> duties and privileges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Alpine Scholar shall be:a. Promote and encourage Arts and Sciences throughout <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences and assist with ARTists’Showcases, classes and teaching opportunities.c. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences to determine <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Arts and Sciences Championship Competition and to plan, organize and conduct <strong>the</strong>competition with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.Article III. E. Captain <strong>of</strong> Eagles – <strong>Summits</strong> Archery Champion1) <strong>The</strong> individual who is judged victorious in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Archery Championship shall bear <strong>the</strong>title Captain <strong>of</strong> Eagles.2) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Archery Championship shall take place at Briaroak Bash in <strong>the</strong> Shire <strong>of</strong> Briaroakon even numbered AS years and Harvest Tournament in <strong>the</strong> Shire <strong>of</strong> Corvaria on odd numberedAS years; and shall end with <strong>the</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Archery Champion.3) Should <strong>the</strong> Captain <strong>of</strong> Eagles be unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> obligations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position or is victorious ina Crown or Coronet List, s/he shall resign <strong>the</strong> title to <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall appoint asuitable person to serve as Champion until <strong>the</strong> next <strong>Principality</strong> Archery Championship.4) <strong>The</strong> duties and privileges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Captain <strong>of</strong> Eagles shall be:a. Promote and encourage archery throughout <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Archery Marshal and assist with tournaments, classes andteaching opportunities.c. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Archery Marshal to determine <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>Archery Championship Tournament and to plan, organize and conduct <strong>the</strong>championship with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.Article III. F. Captain <strong>of</strong> Cats – <strong>Summits</strong> Rapier Champion1) <strong>The</strong> individual who is judged victorious in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Rapier Championship Tournamentshall bear <strong>the</strong> title Captain <strong>of</strong> Cats.2) <strong>The</strong> Rapier Championship shall take place at 11 th Night Winter Investiture and shall end with <strong>the</strong>installation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Rapier Champion.3) Should <strong>the</strong> Captain <strong>of</strong> Cats be unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> obligations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position or is victorious in aCrown or Coronet list, s/he shall resign <strong>the</strong> title to <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall appoint asuitable person to serve as Champion until <strong>the</strong> next <strong>Principality</strong> Rapier Championship.4) <strong>The</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Captain <strong>of</strong> Cats shall be:a. Promote and encourage <strong>the</strong> art and science <strong>of</strong> rapier combat throughout <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong>.b. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Rapier Marshal and assist with tournaments, classes andteaching opportunities.c. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Rapier Marshal to determine <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RapierChampionship Tournament and to plan, organize and conduct <strong>the</strong> championship with<strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.12

G. Outrider <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> – Equestrian Champion1) <strong>The</strong> individual who is judged victorious in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Equestrian Championship shall bear<strong>the</strong> title Outrider <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.2) <strong>The</strong> Equestrian Championship shall take place at a suitable event between May and August andshall end with <strong>the</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Equestrian Champion.3) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Equestrian Championship shall be <strong>of</strong> a kind that promotes a broad range <strong>of</strong>knowledge in various <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>of</strong> Equestrian Skills.4) Should <strong>the</strong> Outrider <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> be unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> obligations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position or isvictorious in a Crown or Coronet List, s/he shall resign <strong>the</strong> title to <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shallappoint a suitable person to serve as Champion until <strong>the</strong> next <strong>Principality</strong> EquestrianChampionship.5) <strong>The</strong> duties and privileges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Outrider <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall be:a. Promote and encourage <strong>the</strong> Equestrian Arts and Sciences throughout <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Equestrian Marshal and assist with tournaments, classes andteaching opportunities.c. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Equestrian Marshal to determine <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>Equestrian Championship Competition and to plan, organize and conduct <strong>the</strong>championship with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.Article III. H. Bard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> – Bardic Champion1) <strong>The</strong> individual who is judged victorious in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Bardic Championship shall bear <strong>the</strong>title Bard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.2) <strong>The</strong> Bardic Championship shall take place at Fall Coronet and shall end with <strong>the</strong> installation <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> new bardic champion.3) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Bardic Championship shall be <strong>of</strong> a kind that promotes a broad range <strong>of</strong>knowledge in <strong>the</strong> Bardic Arts.4) Should <strong>the</strong> Bard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> be unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> obligations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position or is victoriousin a Crown or Coronet List, s/he shall resign <strong>the</strong> title to <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall choose asuitable person to serve as Champion until <strong>the</strong> next <strong>Principality</strong> Bardic Championship.5) <strong>The</strong> duties and privileges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall be:a. Promote and encourage <strong>the</strong> art <strong>of</strong> Bardic Entertainment throughout <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences and assist with classes andteaching opportunities.c. Work with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences to determine <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong> Bardic Championship Competition and to plan, organize and conduct <strong>the</strong>championship with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.Article III. I. Officers <strong>of</strong> State1) All Officers <strong>of</strong> State <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> are responsible <strong>for</strong> carrying-out <strong>the</strong> lawsand business affairs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principality.2) <strong>The</strong> Greater Officers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall be: <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal, BleuGrael Herald, Earl Marshal, Chancellor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer, Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences,Chronicler, Chatelaine, Chirurgeon, Gryphon Scribe, and Family Activities Coordinator.3) <strong>The</strong> Lesser Officers <strong>of</strong> State in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall be <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>Webminister.4) All Officers <strong>of</strong> State shall:a. Be appointed by <strong>the</strong> existing <strong>of</strong>ficer and <strong>the</strong> Kingdom Officer with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Coronet.13


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 2013b. File Quarterly Reports according to An Tir Kingdom <strong>Law</strong>, Article III.D.c. Provide copies <strong>of</strong> all Quarterly Reports to <strong>the</strong>ir Kingdom superior, <strong>the</strong> Coronet, CoronetHeirs and <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal.d. Provide copies <strong>of</strong> all correspondence with <strong>Society</strong> Officers and <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors to<strong>the</strong> Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal.e. Attend Curia and Moot at <strong>the</strong> four Coronet Events and provide a report on <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice and <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir branch <strong>of</strong>ficers, unless receiving exemption from <strong>the</strong>Coronet. In such cases, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal must be notified and <strong>the</strong> ContingencyDeputy or a designated representative must attend in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer’s stead and provide areport on <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice and branch <strong>of</strong>ficers.f. Select and warrant a Contingency Deputy within thirty days <strong>of</strong> assuming <strong>of</strong>fice.i. <strong>The</strong> role <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Contingency Deputy is to administer <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Officer if, <strong>for</strong> whatever reason, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Officer cannotcontinue in that role.ii. <strong>The</strong> Contingency Deputy may not be a spouse/partner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Officer.iii. <strong>The</strong> Contingency Deputy is not presumed to be <strong>the</strong> next <strong>of</strong>ficer. If <strong>the</strong>Contingency Officer is interested in holding <strong>of</strong>fice, <strong>the</strong>y shall apply <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>position just as any o<strong>the</strong>r candidate.iv. <strong>The</strong> Contingency Deputy shall agree to allow personal contact in<strong>for</strong>mation to bepublished in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc.(<strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes) and on <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong> website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong>Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.v. No person shall serve as a Contingency Deputy to more than one <strong>of</strong>fice without<strong>the</strong> written permission <strong>of</strong> both superior <strong>of</strong>ficers and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal.g. Encourage and assist <strong>the</strong>ir subordinate <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir requiredduties to ensure <strong>the</strong> smooth functioning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.h. Officers shall maintain regular communications with <strong>the</strong>ir subordinates.i. Officers shall maintain regular and timely communication, including responding totelephone calls and e-mail communications within seventy-two hours (three days).j. Officers shall appoint deputies and assistants as are necessary to <strong>the</strong> functioning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<strong>of</strong>fice.k. Follow lawful directions from superiors.i. Directions from superior <strong>of</strong>ficers must be in compliance with <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdomand <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and Policies. No <strong>of</strong>ficer shall obey a directive if saiddirective is in conflict with Written and Published <strong>Law</strong>s and/or an order from <strong>the</strong>Crown or Coronet.ii. Any directive that constitutes a conflict <strong>of</strong> <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and/or <strong>Principality</strong><strong>Law</strong>(s) and/or Policies shall be reported immediately to <strong>the</strong> Coronet and Crown.l. Have <strong>the</strong> ability to create rules, regulations, reporting standards and policy relating to<strong>the</strong>ir specific <strong>of</strong>fice. Any such rules, regulations, reporting standards and policies aresubject to <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> and modification by <strong>the</strong>ir superior <strong>of</strong>ficer, <strong>the</strong> Crown and/orCoronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.m. Officers <strong>of</strong> State shall be reimbursed <strong>for</strong> allowable expenses as defined in <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>’ Financial Policy. All Expenses are subject to <strong>the</strong> limits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>of</strong>ficer’s budget and/or approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Financial Committee.14


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 2013n. Be responsible <strong>for</strong> overseeing and/or running <strong>the</strong>ir area <strong>of</strong> responsibility at Coronet and<strong>Principality</strong> Events or assign an acceptable representative to act in <strong>the</strong>ir stead, with <strong>the</strong>approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal and concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet.o. Should an <strong>of</strong>ficer need to step-down be<strong>for</strong>e <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir term, <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice shall beconsidered open and <strong>the</strong> Contingency Deputy shall serve as Interim Officer until a new<strong>of</strong>ficer can be chosen.i. If <strong>the</strong> Contingency Deputy is unable to fulfill <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>Seneschal shall appoint an Interim Officer with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronetand <strong>the</strong> Kingdom Officer.ii. <strong>The</strong> new <strong>of</strong>ficer shall be chosen by <strong>the</strong> rules laid out in Article III.I.55) Appointment, Removal and Terms <strong>of</strong> Office:a. Warrantsi. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal shall be provided with a Warrant <strong>of</strong> Appointment toExecutive Office; duly signed by <strong>the</strong> Kingdom Seneschal and <strong>the</strong> Coronet.ii. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Exchequer shall be provided with a Warrant <strong>of</strong> Appointment toFinancial Office, duly signed by <strong>the</strong> Kingdom Exchequer and <strong>the</strong> Coronet.iii. All <strong>Principality</strong> Officers shall be provided with a Warrant <strong>of</strong> Appointment toOffice; duly signed by <strong>the</strong> appropriate Kingdom Superior Officer and <strong>the</strong>Coronet.iv. Branch Officers shall be provided with <strong>the</strong> appropriate Warrant <strong>of</strong> Appointmentto Office; duly signed by <strong>the</strong> appropriate <strong>Principality</strong> Officer and <strong>the</strong> Coronet.v. All <strong>Principality</strong> Officers shall provide a Warrant Roster, at each CoronetInvestiture, <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir specific area <strong>of</strong> over-sight, which lists all ContingencyDeputies, Branch Officers and Branch Contingency Officers. <strong>The</strong> Warrant Rosteris to be signed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Officer and <strong>the</strong> Coronet and <strong>for</strong>warded to <strong>the</strong>appropriate Kingdom Officer.b. A Term <strong>of</strong> Office is considered to be two years.i. A maximum <strong>of</strong> two (2) one-year term extensions –or- a second two (2) yearterm <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice may be granted with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom Officer andCoronet.ii. A <strong>for</strong>mer <strong>of</strong>ficer may apply <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir previous position after a minimum <strong>of</strong> twoyears out-<strong>of</strong>-<strong>of</strong>fice.c. <strong>The</strong> end-<strong>of</strong>-term date <strong>for</strong> an <strong>of</strong>ficer shall appear in <strong>the</strong> Officer Listing in <strong>the</strong> Echoes andon <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Web Site.d. Notification will be published in <strong>the</strong> “Royal Summons <strong>for</strong> Officers” in <strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong>Echoes three months in advance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> upcoming end-<strong>of</strong>-term <strong>for</strong> each <strong>Principality</strong>Officer <strong>of</strong> State position. At such time, <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice will be considered “open” andapplications will be accepted.e. Applications <strong>for</strong> a <strong>Principality</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> State position shall be made in writing to <strong>the</strong>incumbent <strong>of</strong>ficer with copies provided to: <strong>the</strong> Coronet, Coronet Heirs (if applicable),incumbent <strong>of</strong>ficer’s Kingdom superior and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal.f. Applications <strong>for</strong> a <strong>Principality</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> State shall include <strong>the</strong> following: a Letter <strong>of</strong>Intent, SCA Resume and Modern Resume.g. <strong>The</strong> Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal shall review a new <strong>Principality</strong> Officer’sper<strong>for</strong>mance in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice after <strong>the</strong> first six months and shall report <strong>the</strong>ir conclusions to<strong>the</strong> appropriate Kingdom Officer.15


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 2013h. All <strong>Principality</strong> Officers serve at <strong>the</strong> pleasure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir Kingdom Superior Officer and <strong>the</strong>Coronet.i. All Contingency Deputies serve at <strong>the</strong> pleasure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>Principality</strong> SuperiorOfficer.i. Grounds <strong>for</strong> dismissal by <strong>the</strong> Crown, Coronet and/or <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer’s superior shall include,but not be limited to <strong>the</strong> following:i. <strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer has demonstrated a substantial failure to per<strong>for</strong>m <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>of</strong>fice after having been given notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> failed duties andhaving been given a reasonable opportunity to correct said failures.ii. <strong>The</strong> effectiveness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer has been impaired to a substantial degree dueto personal reasons or a breakdown in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer’s ability to deal with <strong>the</strong>Crown and/or Coronet, <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer’s superior, <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer’s deputies andsubordinates or <strong>the</strong> populace with whom <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer must work.iii. <strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer has willfully abused <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice by using it to hinder or annoy o<strong>the</strong>rsor to advance some purpose inconsistent with <strong>the</strong> trust <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong>fice.iv. <strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer has per<strong>for</strong>med <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice at an unacceptably low level <strong>for</strong> anunacceptably long period <strong>of</strong> time.v. <strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer has demonstrated a failure to abide by <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and/or<strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and Policy.Specific Duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Officers <strong>of</strong> StateJob descriptions are in order <strong>of</strong> precedence; deputies are listed with <strong>the</strong> appropriate Superior Officer.6) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal:a. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal is <strong>the</strong> Chief Executive Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> and <strong>the</strong> legalrepresentative <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong> within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal shall:i. Pass a background check as required by <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> Policy.ii. Assist <strong>the</strong> Coronet in matters <strong>of</strong> Corpora, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong> andPolicy.iii. Administer <strong>the</strong> Branches <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> through Branch Seneschals.iv. Receive copies <strong>of</strong> all reports to <strong>the</strong> Crown and/or Coronet, generated from<strong>Principality</strong> Greater and Lesser Offices <strong>of</strong> State, Baronial Officers and ShireOfficers.v. Hold regularly scheduled meetings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Curia and Moot at Coronet Events.vi. Be in regular communication with <strong>the</strong> Crown and Coronet.vii. Be responsible <strong>for</strong> supervising and have ultimate responsibility <strong>for</strong> planning andcarrying-out Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Events.viii. Serve as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Financial Committee.ix. Be a signatory on all <strong>Principality</strong> bank accounts.x. Compile and maintain <strong>the</strong> Calendar Policy, which shall contain a currentlist <strong>of</strong> branch reserved datesii. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Training Deputy shall:1. Ensure that <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> understand <strong>the</strong>ir reportingresponsibilities. This includes <strong>the</strong>ir deadlines, <strong>for</strong>mat, and who toreport to.2. Arrange <strong>for</strong> training <strong>of</strong> individual <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> policies and procedures<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice.3. Assist in <strong>the</strong> arrangement <strong>of</strong> Bi-annual Administrative Retreats.7) Bleu Grael Herald:a. <strong>The</strong> Bleu Grael Herald, is <strong>the</strong> Chief Heraldic Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> and <strong>the</strong> head <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Heralds.b. <strong>The</strong> Bleu Grael Herald, shall:i. Act as <strong>the</strong> Coronet's chief advisor in all heraldic matters.ii. Act as <strong>the</strong> Voice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet in coordination with <strong>the</strong> Royal Herald.iii. Facilitate <strong>the</strong> timely processing <strong>of</strong> registration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> arms, devices and badges<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> populace.iv. Advise <strong>the</strong> Coronet and populace on matters <strong>of</strong> ceremony and protocol.v. Encourage <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> heraldry within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.vi. Coordinate with <strong>the</strong> Court Coordinator to ensure that <strong>the</strong> AwardsRoster is properly reported to Kingdom Dexter Gauntlet.8) <strong>The</strong> Earl Marshal:a. <strong>The</strong> Earl Marshal is <strong>the</strong> Chief Martial Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> Earl Marshal shall:i. Represent <strong>the</strong> Coronet in <strong>the</strong> Coronet's absence, supervising combatants on <strong>the</strong>field <strong>of</strong> honour.ii. Interpret and maintain <strong>the</strong> martial standards and regulations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdomand <strong>Principality</strong>.iii. May serve a second and final two-year term <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice contingent upon asuccessful confidence polling <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> War Captains <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> andwith <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet. <strong>The</strong> confidence polling is simply atool and <strong>the</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall have <strong>the</strong> final decision in whowill serve as <strong>the</strong> Warlord <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.v. <strong>The</strong> Youth Armoured Combat Officer1. Is <strong>the</strong> chief organizer and educator <strong>of</strong> Youth Combat Arts2. Must pass a background check as administered by <strong>the</strong> KingdomSeneschal’s <strong>of</strong>fice.3. Maintain and en<strong>for</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> An Tir Book <strong>of</strong> Youth Armored Combat.4. Encourage and promote Youth Combat Arts throughout <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>vi. <strong>The</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lists shall:1. Organize and coordinate lists as directed by <strong>the</strong> Coronet.2. Work in cooperation with <strong>the</strong> Earl Marshal to maintain fighterauthorization.3. Establish and maintain an authorization system <strong>for</strong> riders andequestrian marshals.9) <strong>The</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences:a. <strong>The</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences is <strong>the</strong> Chief Artistic and Scientific Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> .<strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences shall:i. Encourage <strong>the</strong> research and development <strong>of</strong> historically accurate period art<strong>for</strong>ms, technologies and philosophies.ii. Organize <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Arts and Sciences Championship Competition with <strong>the</strong>assistance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> current Alpine Scholar.iii. Serve on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Regalia Committee.10) <strong>The</strong> Chancellor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer:a. <strong>The</strong> Chancellor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer is <strong>the</strong> Chief Financial Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> Chancellor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer shall:i. Maintain <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>'s financial records.ii. Receive and verify <strong>the</strong> accuracy <strong>of</strong> reports from branch exchequers and o<strong>the</strong>rentities.iii. Compile and submit four quarterly reports and a year-end “Doomsday Report”to <strong>the</strong> Kingdom.iv. Serve as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Financial Committee.v. Be a signatory on all principality bank accounts.vi. Advise <strong>the</strong> Coronet on matters <strong>of</strong> finance.vii. Oversee <strong>the</strong> procedures <strong>of</strong> Branch Exchequers.viii. Provide counsel to anyone needing advice on financial matters relating to <strong>the</strong><strong>Society</strong>.ix. Relate and en<strong>for</strong>ce <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> Financial Policy.c. Deputies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chancellor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer:i. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chamberlain shall:1. Maintain and inventory <strong>the</strong> Royal Regalia. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chamberlain,<strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal, <strong>the</strong> Coronet and <strong>the</strong> Coronets Heirs at eachInvestiture event shall sign a completed inventory <strong>for</strong>m.2. Maintain a secured storage facility and/or principality trailer <strong>for</strong> regalia.3. Order and maintain a sufficient supply <strong>of</strong> medallions and o<strong>the</strong>r tokensgiven by <strong>the</strong> Coronet.19

Solicit bids <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> repair or replacement <strong>of</strong> existing regalia items or <strong>the</strong>creation <strong>of</strong> new Regalia.11) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chronicler:a. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chronicler is <strong>the</strong> Chief Record Keeper <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> and isultimately responsible <strong>for</strong> all <strong>of</strong>ficial publications within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chronicler shall:i. Maintain and oversee <strong>of</strong>ficial communication through electronic media, such asweb pages and e-mail.ii. Encourage <strong>the</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> results <strong>of</strong> research by any subject <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Coronet.iii. Keep <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial minutes at Curia and Moot Meetings.iv. Provide a copy <strong>of</strong> all minutes recorded at Curia and Moot, within seven workingdays <strong>of</strong> all Coronet Events, to <strong>the</strong> Coronet, Coronet Heirs (as applicable),<strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal and <strong>Principality</strong> Officers <strong>for</strong> corrections and approvalbe<strong>for</strong>e publishing.v. Provide a copy <strong>of</strong> all minutes recorded at <strong>the</strong> Financial Committee, within sevenworking days <strong>of</strong> all Coronet Events, to <strong>the</strong> Coronet, Coronet Heirs (as applicable)and <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal <strong>for</strong> corrections and approval be<strong>for</strong>e publishing.vi. Distribute approved minutes to <strong>the</strong> Coronet, Coronet Heirs (as applicable),<strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal and <strong>Principality</strong> Officers within fourteen working days <strong>of</strong>all <strong>Principality</strong> Events.vii. Provide a copy <strong>of</strong> all approved minutes, within twenty working days <strong>of</strong> allCoronet Events, to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Webminister <strong>for</strong> publication on <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<strong>Society</strong> website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.c. Deputies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chronicler:i. <strong>The</strong> Echoes Deputy Editor-In-Chief shall:1. Accept submissions <strong>for</strong>, compile, collate, publish and distribute <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong> newsletter, <strong>The</strong> Echoes, no less than quarterly, within anacceptable time frame and in accordance with Corpora.2. Publish <strong>of</strong>ficial announcements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet.3. Publish changes to <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong>.ii. <strong>The</strong> Publications Deputy shall:1. Maintain all <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Principality</strong> documents both in print and online.Official <strong>Principality</strong> documents are defined as all documents originatingfrom a <strong>Principality</strong> Officer in accordance with <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice as specified inArticle I.G.2. Coordinate with <strong>Principality</strong> Officers concerning <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Principality</strong>documents and revisions to said documents originating from <strong>the</strong>ir<strong>of</strong>fice.3. Verify compliance to modem laws and <strong>Society</strong> Governing Documents <strong>for</strong>all <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Principality</strong> documents.4. Produce printed editions <strong>of</strong> all documents as needed and/or required by<strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong>.5. Keep <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> updated as directed by<strong>the</strong> Coronet or <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal working in conjunction with <strong>the</strong>Coronet.20

Publish <strong>the</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> bi-annually in a“Special Edition” <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> Echoes.12) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Webministera. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Webminister supervises all web-publishing activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principality.<strong>The</strong> webminister is responsible <strong>for</strong> maintaining a pr<strong>of</strong>essional and functional web site.b. <strong>The</strong> Webminister shall:i. Supervise all web-publishing activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principality.ii. Be <strong>the</strong> editor or supervise <strong>the</strong> editor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> website.iii. Ensure all local branch websites meet <strong>the</strong> standards set <strong>for</strong>th by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>Webminister;iv. Provide updates to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Web site within 72 hours <strong>of</strong> receipt <strong>of</strong>request from <strong>the</strong> Coronet and/or <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal.13) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chirurgeon:a. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chirurgeon is <strong>the</strong> Chief First-Aid Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chirurgeon shall:i. Administer <strong>the</strong> chirurgeonate in providing voluntary first-aid at <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong>events and activities.ii. Develop and maintain procedures <strong>for</strong> notifying attendees <strong>of</strong> health and safetyconcerns at <strong>Society</strong> events.14) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chatelaine:a. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chatelaine is <strong>the</strong> Chief Welcome Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>.b. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Chatelaine shall:i. Introduce new and prospective members to appropriate branches and currentmembers.ii. Provide education on <strong>the</strong> history and customs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Current Middle Ages,Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong>.iii. Encourage active participation and period behavior.iv. Coordinate with Gold Key, a deputy to <strong>the</strong> Chatelaine, to make period clothingaccessible to new members.v. Represent <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong> accurately and favorably.c. Deputies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chatelaine:i. Gold Key shall:1. Provide new members and visitors with period clothing to be utilizedduring an event.2. Clean and maintain <strong>the</strong> period clothing provided at events.15) <strong>The</strong> Family Activities Coordinator:a. <strong>The</strong> Family Activities Coordinator is <strong>the</strong> chief <strong>of</strong>ficer in charge <strong>of</strong> encouragingopportunities <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> education, entertainment and participation <strong>of</strong> families.b. <strong>The</strong> Family Activities Coordinator shall:i. Pass a background check as required by <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> Policy.ii. Assist branches in developing guidelines and coordinating activities with <strong>the</strong>focus specifically to encourage family participation.iii. Serve as an in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>for</strong> safety issues affecting families at events.21

Promote <strong>the</strong> ideals <strong>of</strong> service and chivalry among <strong>the</strong> families <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdomand <strong>Principality</strong>.v. Educate families on <strong>the</strong> aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA historical period <strong>of</strong> study.vi. Educate families on <strong>the</strong> history and customs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and<strong>Principality</strong>.c. Deputies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Family Activities Coordinator:i. <strong>The</strong> Preceptor <strong>of</strong> Pages shall:1. Pass a background check as required by <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and<strong>Principality</strong>.2. Promote <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>of</strong> all children at <strong>Society</strong> events.3. Educate children, ages twelve to seventeen, on age-appropriate aspects<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA historical period <strong>of</strong> study.4. Educate children, ages twelve to seventeen, on <strong>the</strong> history and customs<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong>.5. Establish guidelines and coordinate activities <strong>for</strong> children twelve toseventeen at <strong>Principality</strong> events.6. Share in<strong>for</strong>mation on children's activities with interested persons.16) <strong>The</strong> Gryphon Scribea. <strong>The</strong> Gryphon Scribe is <strong>the</strong> Chief Scribe <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principality.b. <strong>The</strong> Gryphon Scribe shall:i. Serve as <strong>the</strong> administrative head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scribes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.ii. Maintain <strong>the</strong> Great Seal <strong>of</strong> State <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>; surrendering<strong>the</strong> Great Seal to <strong>the</strong> Coronet in time <strong>of</strong> need and upon occasions <strong>of</strong> State.iii. Maintain and administer <strong>the</strong> Backlog Scroll and Charter Roster <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Principality</strong>.iv. Coordinate with <strong>the</strong> scribes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> to ensure <strong>the</strong> timely completion <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> scrolls and charters from <strong>the</strong> roster.v. Ensure, through coordination with Bleu Grael Herald, <strong>the</strong> accuracy andsuitability <strong>of</strong> original scrolls containing registered heraldry.vi. Ensure, in cooperation with <strong>the</strong> Royal Scribe, that all charters and scrolls <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>current reign are completed to <strong>the</strong> satisfaction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet.vii. Maintain a supply <strong>of</strong> impressions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Great Seal, furnishing <strong>the</strong>se to <strong>the</strong>Coronet and/or Royal Scribe, as needed.Article IV.REPORTSArticle IV. A. <strong>Principality</strong> Officer Reporting1) <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers shall submit a written Quarterly Report as per Kingdom <strong>Law</strong> Article III.D. to<strong>the</strong> Coronet, <strong>the</strong> Coronet Heirs (as applicable), <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal, Kingdom superior and toany o<strong>the</strong>rs required by <strong>Society</strong>, Kingdom and <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and/or Policy.2) <strong>The</strong> calendar year is divided into <strong>the</strong> following reporting quarters:a. January, February and March (First Quarter) due May 15thb. April, May, and June (Second Quarter) due August 15th.c. July, August, September (Third Quarter) due November 15th.d. October, November, and December (Fourth Quarter) due February 15th.22


<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>June 20133) Vacant Offices:a. Should a Contingency Deputy not be able to fulfill <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> a <strong>Principality</strong> Officer’sposition, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal shall assume <strong>the</strong> reporting duties <strong>of</strong> said <strong>of</strong>fice, with<strong>the</strong> exception <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chancellor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer, until a suitable <strong>of</strong>ficercan be installed.Article IV. B. Branch Officer Reporting1) Branch <strong>of</strong>ficers shall submit a written Quarterly Report as per Kingdom <strong>Law</strong> Article III.D. to <strong>the</strong>ir<strong>Principality</strong> Superior, <strong>the</strong> Branch Seneschal and <strong>the</strong> Baron and Baroness (as applicable) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>branch.2) <strong>The</strong> reporting quarters are:a. January, February and March (First Quarter) due May 1st.b. April, May, and June (Second Quarter) due August 1st.c. July, August, September (Third Quarter) due November 1st.d. October, November, and December (Fourth Quarter) due February 1st.3) Branch Officers shall report pursuant to <strong>the</strong> direction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>Principality</strong> Superior, including <strong>the</strong>use <strong>of</strong> required reporting <strong>for</strong>mats and/or <strong>for</strong>ms.4) A Branch Officer shall report with greater reporting frequency, at <strong>the</strong> direction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<strong>Principality</strong> Superior, when a reporting structure has been put into place to ensure <strong>the</strong> smoothrunning <strong>of</strong> said <strong>of</strong>fice.5) A Branch Office shall report directly to <strong>the</strong>ir Kingdom Officer, should <strong>the</strong>re be no <strong>Principality</strong>Officer or designated Reporting Officer.6) <strong>The</strong> Branch Seneschal shall be responsible <strong>for</strong> submitting Quarterly Reports <strong>for</strong> all vacant BranchOffices to <strong>the</strong> relevant <strong>Principality</strong> Officer(s). <strong>The</strong> report shall include <strong>the</strong> Branch Seneschal’scontact in<strong>for</strong>mation, statement <strong>of</strong> vacancy, any potential <strong>of</strong>ficer candidates and any activitiesrelated to <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.7) <strong>The</strong> Branch Officer shall submit a Monthly Report to <strong>the</strong>ir Branch Seneschal at <strong>the</strong> BranchMonthly Business Meeting and shall supply a copy to <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>Principality</strong> Superior Officer asrequested or required, including <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> required reporting <strong>for</strong>mats and/or <strong>for</strong>ms.Article IV. C. Failure to report - Consequences1) Failure <strong>of</strong> a Branch Officer to report to <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>Principality</strong> Superior on two consecutive reportingperiods, or twice in a twelve-month span <strong>of</strong> time, will result in <strong>the</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong>ficer.2) Suspension <strong>of</strong> a Branch Officer will be in <strong>for</strong>ce until reinstatement by <strong>the</strong> Coronet, <strong>Principality</strong>Seneschal and <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>Principality</strong> Superior Officer.3) <strong>The</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> a Branch Officer, especially <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> critical <strong>of</strong>fices <strong>of</strong> Seneschal and/orExchequer, can result in that branch passing into abeyance.4) Should a Branch Officer remain in suspension <strong>for</strong> a full reporting period, that <strong>of</strong>fice should, at<strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> that reporting period, be considered vacant.5) Branches in abeyance may, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal, bepassed over as a hosting branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> level events.6) Branches in abeyance or with poor reporting records <strong>for</strong> any <strong>of</strong>fice risk demotion back toIncipient Status at <strong>the</strong> discretion and advice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet, <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal, KingdomSeneschal, and New Branches Deputy (if applicable).23

A. Awards within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>1) <strong>The</strong> power to bestow all awards flows from <strong>the</strong> Crown.a. Any subject may make recommendations to <strong>the</strong> Crown and Coronet regarding any level<strong>of</strong> award.b. It is <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> those with administrative responsibilities to bring <strong>for</strong>ward <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong>individuals deserving <strong>of</strong> recognition.2) No branch or o<strong>the</strong>r entity below Baronial level may bestow awards.a. Shires and o<strong>the</strong>r branch entities below Baronial level may give tokens and scrolls <strong>of</strong>praise and recognition.3) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Coronets, with <strong>the</strong> permission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Crown, may bestow Award <strong>of</strong> Arms tosubjects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> per Kingdom <strong>Law</strong> IV.C.a. <strong>The</strong> names <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Crown shall be incorporated into <strong>the</strong> text <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scroll or charter.b. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall request permission to bestow Awards <strong>of</strong> Arms at <strong>the</strong> commencement<strong>of</strong> each reign.4) <strong>The</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong> An Tir grants <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Coronets <strong>the</strong> privilege <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fering a Patent <strong>of</strong> Arms tothose who have attained <strong>the</strong> rank <strong>of</strong> Viscounty as outlined in Corpora VIII.A.4.d and per Kingdom<strong>Law</strong> IV.C.3.c.Article V. B. Creation <strong>of</strong> Awards<strong>The</strong> Coronet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> shall create awards <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> recognition <strong>of</strong> subjects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>principality per Kingdom <strong>Law</strong> Article IV.C.3.b.a. <strong>Principality</strong> Awards must be ratified by <strong>the</strong> Laurel Sovereign <strong>of</strong> Arms.b. <strong>The</strong> precedence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se awards shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>of</strong> An Tir.Article V. C. <strong>Summits</strong> Awards – Non Armigerous Awards and HonoursNon-Armigerous Awards do not confer <strong>the</strong> right to bear arms. Non-Armigerous Awards have no bearingon an individual’s standing in <strong>the</strong> Order <strong>of</strong> Precedence.1) Ordo Aerie:a. This is a closed order consisting <strong>of</strong> all those who held <strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> Defender (HighChief) or Lady <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> prior to <strong>the</strong> Crown <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> beinggranted full status as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>.b. Members are entitled to wear a black garter with a grail tippet.2) Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Gryphon and Spear:a. Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> order are those combatants who have placed second in <strong>the</strong> CoronetLists.b. Members are entitled to wear an argent sword bent into a ring.3) Order <strong>of</strong> Morgan's Rose (pending registration):a. Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> order are <strong>the</strong> consorts <strong>of</strong> combatants who have placed second in <strong>the</strong>Coronet Lists.b. Members are entitled to wear an argent rose wrapped around an argent spear.4) Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Shield <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong>:24

This is a polling order and is given with <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> current Companions<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order.c. <strong>The</strong> honour shall be bestowed no more than once per Coronet reign and need not begiven every reign.d. <strong>The</strong> Coronet shall only present this award at a Coronet Level Event.6) Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Silver Barberry:a. B. <strong>The</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer – Financial Committee1) <strong>The</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer is <strong>the</strong> Financial Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> andshall consist <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet, <strong>the</strong> Coronet Heirs (when applicable), <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal and<strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Exchequer.2) All requests and proposals <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> monies <strong>for</strong> any and all expenses must besubmitted in writing to <strong>the</strong> Financial Committee. <strong>The</strong> consent <strong>of</strong> a majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> FinancialCommittee is needed to disburse monies; with <strong>the</strong> exception <strong>of</strong> (Article III.I.4.p.) pre-approved<strong>of</strong>ficer budgets.3) <strong>The</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer shall create and maintain <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy.a. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy shall:i. Have changes announced via <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial publications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc. (<strong>The</strong> Crierand <strong>The</strong> Echoes) and on <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong> website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong>Directors.iv. Include designated funds overseen by <strong>the</strong> principality.4) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy shall have <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>ce <strong>of</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>Law</strong> onceapproved and published in <strong>of</strong>ficial publications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SCA, Inc. (<strong>The</strong> Crier and <strong>The</strong> Echoes) andon <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>Society</strong> website(s) as defined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.5) Designated Funds overseen by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Summits</strong> must be included in <strong>the</strong> FinancialPolicya. Designated Fund balances must be published quarterly in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial publication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>principality (<strong>The</strong> Echoes) and be reported at every Curia and Moot.b. Designated Funds include <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Travel Fund and Gryphon Travel Fund.6) <strong>The</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exchequer will meet at each Coronet Event. O<strong>the</strong>r meetings may be called asneeded to conduct principality business.7) On-line discussions between members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council constitute a meeting, providing allFinancial Committee members are included and a written response, by each member, to <strong>the</strong> onlinediscussion is documented.8) <strong>The</strong> Exchequer’s Council and all branches within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> shall adhere to all policies asstated within <strong>the</strong> current <strong>Summits</strong> Financial Policy.27

Written reports fromEvent Stewards shall be given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal 72 hours prior to Curia and on amonthly basis as stated in <strong>Principality</strong> Event Policy.4) All <strong>Principality</strong> Officers will submit a written report (current Quarterly Report with necessaryupdates), to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Seneschal and Chronicler, seventy-two hours prior to a CoronetEvent, covering <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice.5) Curia and Moot may be held as a combined meeting as deemed appropriate by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>Seneschal and with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet.Article VI. D. Moot1) Moot shall be <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>um <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong> Officers <strong>of</strong> State to discuss <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>of</strong>fice,projects and goals; Branch Seneschals to give reports on <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir branch and branchevents; Event Stewards to provide reports on <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Events and<strong>the</strong> populace to discuss areas <strong>of</strong> opportunity and provide positive input <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> future <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>principality. All members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> populace may attend.2) <strong>Principality</strong> Officers <strong>of</strong> State and Branch Seneschals, or a representative, must attend Moot.3) Event Stewards <strong>of</strong> Coronet and <strong>Principality</strong> Events must attend Moot and provide a report on<strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir specific event.4) Branch Event Stewards, or a representative, are encouraged to provide updates andannouncements <strong>for</strong> all Branch Events occurring within <strong>the</strong> principality over <strong>the</strong> next six months.5) <strong>The</strong>re shall be a Moot at each Coronet Event.6) Curia and Moot may be held as a combined meeting as deemed appropriate by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Principality</strong>Seneschal with <strong>the</strong> concurrence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coronet.Signed thisA.S.
