Thissummary is intended to reflect the original scope and nature of your project, not your intended plans forcontinuation.<strong>ITQ</strong>08-07 UA: Teachers of reading in Arizona are now required to earn an ArizonaReading Endorsement, which sets strict standards for both content knowledge andclassroom technologies in reading. This project, created by the Department ofLanguage, Reading, and Culture at the University of Arizona’s College of Education,offers reading teachers the chance to meet this requirement with a unique onlinegraduate course in literacy in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, andmathematics) classroom. Thirty teachers are participating in the pilot development of theonline coursework, representing high-poverty LEAs in Tucson and in Nogales, on theArizona-Mexico border, as well as a high-poverty charter school. In Phase Two, theonline Arizona Reading Endorsement preparatory course will be available to LEAsstatewide through IDEAL, the Arizona Department of Education’s online teacherdevelopment portal.2. Key Activities and Outcomes to Date:Please describe, clearly and specifically:The major activities your project has engaged in to date; andKey outcomes related to helping teachers reach “highly qualified” status.Be specific. We are especially interested in progress toward achievinghighly-qualified status as it is defined in Arizona -- for instance:The number of participating teachers who took their subject-area AEPA exam;The number of teachers who passed their subject-area AEPA exam;Any other measures that demonstrate teachers’ progress toward achieving “highly qualifiedstatus.”Also address the following questions:Are you ahead of schedule, behind schedule, or on schedule for achieving the outcomes you setforth in your original <strong>ITQ</strong> proposal?If behind schedule, why?
