Madras 600 090, on behalf of theTamil Information Centre, 3rd Floor, 24-28,Clapham High Street, London SW4 7UR, UnitedKingdom.So, Mossad is here!The speed with which President Jayawardenemoved in to fill the awed silence that followed thetragic blast at Madras airpor t was a classic demon -stration of the art of political one-upmanship. Evenbefore Madras could blink its eyes or count itsdead, the 78-year fox was busy writing a letter toIndian Prime Minister Indica Gandhi not merelyexpressing the customary "shock and grief" butcalling on her to "unite tc fight terrorism"! Theinsinuation was as loud as the bomb.If getting jhe first word in, is the characteristicof a seasoned campaigner like Jayawardene, leavingdeceptive trails is the hall-mark of a professionalkiller organisation. Sticking a Colombo destinationlabel on a piece of baggage does not necessarilymean that the baggage was meant to go to Colombo.It only means that we are asked to think so. We donot even know whether there were more telephonecalls than what we are supposed to know, or whatthey said. There is apparently much more in theMadras airport tragedy than what meets the eye.If there is another characteristic that PresidentJayawardene shares with — yes, the Mossad outfitfrom Israel — it is this: Carry the war into theenemy camp; always. It is known that in an attemptto appease angry Arab nations soon after theinduction of Mossad into Sri Lanka's internalaffairs, the Colombo government tried to pleadthat Mossad help was sought only to meet "externalterrorist" threats. The insinuation against Tamilnaduwas again clear. It is also known that a retiredhigh-ranking Sri Lankan Police officer has beengiven a virtual blank cheque to set up a Mossadtrainedoutfit in Madras itself. A cocktail partyboast by a Sri Lankan High Commission officialthat Indian mediamen could be bought over withimported Scotch might not prove true except maybein the rare case of one or two. But to hire Tamilagents for the Mossad strike force with attractivedirty money may not prove so difficult.To the several thousands of Sri Lankan Tamilrefugees and exiles, and particularly to the variousliberation groups and activists who have fled dangerin their own country and found temporarysanctuary inTamilnadu.the writing on the wall isnow clear. Even Tamilnadu is becoming unsafe.The long hand of President Jayawardene's Stateterrorism is reaching out. It may well prove to bethat the first MOSSAD harvest was reaped atMadras airport on the night of August 2. The,Eelamliberation battle cannot anymore be fought onTamilnadu soil, through newspaper statements andhuman rights seminars. It can only tie done on thesoil that generated it and the land that needs theliberation.•TAMIL INFORMATIONTAMIL INTERNATIONAL was launched InMadras datelined 1 July 1984. Around the sametime In New York, the International TamilConference meeting in Nanuet adopted a resolutionfor the setting up a BODY called THAMILINTERNATIONAL.Ours is an independent journal published bythe Tamil Information Centre, London, with itsbranches in Besant Nagar, Madras and inMadurai, and with no affiliation whatsoever withany other body in any part of the world. Since thedirectorate of the TIC felt that the identicalnessof the names has led to some public confusionand may lead to further embarassment in theindependent functioning of the journal, it wasdecided to change the title to TAMILINFORMATION.Although it was our intention to appear fortnightiy"beginning 1 July, we have been unable tomaintain this periodicity because of these unforseen problems. The next issue bearing the newname will be issued on 1 September, and thereafterthe fortnightly frequency will be maintained.Readers are requested to bear with us until then.Thank you.jkpo;j; Njrpa Mtzr; Rtbfs;
