Write Out Your Literary Response1. Write a well-developed paragraph that clearly states your response and alsosupports your original thought with details and examples from the story (two orthree).2. Please DO NOT SUMMARIZE!!!3. EXAMPLE: Penelope Lively uses dramatic and verbal irony to build suspense inthe plot of her short story “Next Term, We’ll Mash You.” She makes her storysuspenseful by revealing the agony of Charley’s experience at St. Edwards. Whenhe visits the boys’ room, they surround him and threaten him. “Next term, we’llmash you” (1304). This violent introduction to the school is different from theparents’ experience. “Did you see the lovely gym, and the swimming pool?”(1304). The mother was impressed by the physical beauty, hospitality of theheadmaster, and the prestige of sending Charles to such an expensive school.Charles on the other hand was “…haggard with anticipation” (1302). Theparents’ lack of concern for Charles’s perspective is evident throughout the storybecause they never allow him to answer questions before cutting him off.Without communication the divide between their two different experiencesremained unresolved.
