Notes• MPharm degrees were first awarded in 2001, prior to that a variety of qualifications led to <strong>pre</strong>‐<strong>registration</strong> training in the UK (See historicalqualifications document)• The route to <strong>registration</strong> in the UK <strong>for</strong> UK education persons is:‐ Accredited UK MPharm + UK <strong>pre</strong>‐<strong>registration</strong> training + <strong>GPhC</strong>/PSNI Registration Examination• The route to <strong>registration</strong> in the UK <strong>for</strong> non‐EEA education persons is:‐ Accredited UK OSPAP qualification + <strong>pre</strong>‐<strong>registration</strong> training + <strong>GPhC</strong>/PSNI Registration Examination• The universities of London and Wales are federal, with a central degree awarding function (University of London/University of Wales) but also withconstituent institutions with their own degree awarding powers. This explains why the Welsh School of Pharmacy used to award degrees of theUniversity of Wales (the Federal University) but now awards degrees of Cardiff University (the School’s parent institution); a variation is King’s CollegeLondon, an institution of the University of London: it used to award degrees of the University of London but now offers its students the choice of eitherUniversity of London degrees or King’s College London degrees.• The Republic of Ireland [Eire] is not part of the United Kingdom. It is a separate country and a member state of the European Union.• Degrees in the Republic of Ireland are <strong>accredited</strong> by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland. Currently there are three <strong>accredited</strong> <strong>courses</strong>:‐ Trinity College Dublin‐ Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland‐ University College Cork.• MPharm degrees in Northern Ireland are jointly <strong>accredited</strong> by the <strong>GPhC</strong> and PSNI.<strong>GPhC</strong> = <strong>General</strong> Pharmaceutical Council.
