STAFF BIOSSPIROSANASTASVOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACHFirst SeasonLebanon Valley College ‘10Spiros Anastas begins his first season with the Broncos as the Volunteer Assistant Hockey Coach. Hisprimary responsibilities include oversight of video break down and analysis for team systems and opponentscouting reports, assisting in player development, practice and game planning, organizing team travel, andworking closely with community service, charity, and alumni events.The Mississauga, Ontario native began his Coaching career at DIII Lebanon Valley College in January 2010when he took over as Student-Coach after the resignation of the Head Coach in his senior season. He ledthe team to some of their best performances in the very competitive ECAC West. He returned to LebanonValley for the 2010-2011 season as an Assistant Coach under NHL alumnus, Tony Horacek. He helpedlead the team to a 21-4-2 record during their transition from the ECAC West to the ACHA. Outside of thearena, Anastas was responsible for a number of community service events with Habitat for Humanity, andorganized Lebanon Valley’s first ever Wounded Warrior Military Appreciation Night, which generated over2,500 fans and $23,000 raised for the Wounded Warrior Project. He holds USA Hockey Level III certificationand has instructed for a number of Hockey Schools, Camps and Youth Teams in both Canada and theUnited States.As a dual sport student-athlete at Lebanon Valley College, Anastas competed in Track & Field and Captained the Hockey team for all four seasons. He was a MAC Conference Championship qualifier in the 4x400 relay andreceived MAC Honor Roll recognition for Track & Field. He was a three time ECAC West All-Academic team member for Hockey.Anastas had a lengthy Junior A Hockey career in the OPJHL with the Bancroft Hawks, Huntsville Otters, and Vaughn Vipers. In 2001 he was a participant at the Ontario U17 camp and attended OHL camps with the KingstonFrontenacs and Owen Sound Attack.As an all around athlete, Anastas picked up Athlete of the Year recognition while competing in Hockey, Football, Baseball, Soccer, and Basketball at Lorne Park Secondary School.Anastas graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lebanon Valley College with a BA in Economics and a BSc in Business Administration and Accounting. At the end of the fall semester, he will receive his MSc in Sports Administrationfrom Canisius College.BRIANBAUERATHLETIC TRAINER10th season at WMUIndiana State ‘99Brian Bauer has been with the athletic training staff at WMU since 2002, and as assistantdirector of medical services since 2007. He is responsible for the care of theice hockey team as well as assisting with the football team.Brian attended Indiana State <strong>University</strong> in Terre Haute, Ind., where he received abachelor of science degree in athletic training in 1999. He received his master’s degreefrom Grand Valley State <strong>University</strong> in Allendale, Mich., in 2001 where he servedas a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Lakers from 1999-2001.Brian was the medical coordinator and host for the 2010 NCAA Men’s Ice HockeyFrozen Four which was held in Detroit, Mich. He has also coordinated and hostedthe NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Midwest Regional four times, which has been held inGrand Rapids, Mich.Ohio for a year.Prior to arriving to WMU, Brian was an assistant at the <strong>University</strong> of Findlay in Findlay,A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., he and his wife, Rebecca, reside in Portage, Mich., with their son, Landon, and daughter, Brynley.6Van Atter received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Michigan</strong>in 1992. He is a certified member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Associationand also a member of the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers & Society of ProfessionalHockey Equipment Managers.Dion is single and lives in Kalamazoo.DIONVAN ATTERASSISTANT COACH14th season at WMU<strong>Western</strong> <strong>Michigan</strong> ‘92Dion Van Atter embarks on his 14th season with the Broncos and 17th year in theathletic department. He is responsible for hockey equipment needs and also ordersequipment for the baseball team.A native of Otsego, Mich., Van Atter also works with Bronco baseball and football(preseason) teams. Van Atter has also helped <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Michigan</strong> and the CCHA withfive NCAA Regional Championships in Grand Rapids.One of the highlights of Van Atter’s career was serving as equipment manager forthe United States team at the World <strong>University</strong> Hockey Championship held in JoeLouis Arena.www.wmubroncos.com • 4 NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES • www.wmubroncos.com • 1 CCHA TITLE
