BELLADONA - Dr. Gheorghe Jurj - Homeopatie

BELLADONA: CLINICAL CASE*Dr. Gheorghe Jurj* Revista Română de Homeopatie, 1999, 1, 53-54The clinical cases that may be treated with Belladona are very frequent. From the many I havetreated, I chose the following, not because it was difficult to diagnose the remedy, but because I wasable to supply sufficient evidence to show the objective effectiveness of homeopathy, even whencompared to conventional medicine.M.N., male, 55 years old, admitted to the university hospital with the following diagnoses: biliarymicrolithiasis, biliary sludge, hepatosteatosis, right side post-pneumonia state, arterioscleroticarteriopathy of the lower limbs I-II, cervico-occipital neuralgia on a background of vertebro-basilarcirculatory insufficiency. Admission was due to: poor general state, strong cramp-like pains andparesthesia in the lower limbs; subfebrile; nightly copious perspiration; occipital headache that hadstarted 2 months earlier. Upon admission, in 09/29/98, he presented the following data: VHS: 95mm/h; hyper-alpha2: 14%; left hilar adenopathy (bronchoscopy and functional tests: normal);biliary sludge (ultrasound); pulse decreased in the pedal and posterior tibial arteries. Oscillographyfrom 09/08/98:Left leg Right legFemoral 1.5/2 1.5/2Popliteal 1/2 1/2Tibial 0.5/1 0.5/1The condition was diagnosed as Prolonged Febrile Syndrome, and was treated with antiinflammatorydrugs, cholecistokinetics (extract of Cynara, Anghirol®), hepatotonics. VHS droppedto 57 mm/h, but the poor general state, headache and pain in the lower limbs remained, and this wasthe reason to seek a homeopathic treatment. On physical examination it was remarked:- congestive face, bright eyes.- congestive conjunctivitis- a large lipoma (10 x 8 cm) in the left arm- sensitiveness to pressure on the point of emergence of the Arnold’s nerve.- vertigo appearing upon the least rotation of the headThe patient complained of:- headache, beginning in the occipital area, appearing in daily attacks upon motion, wakinghim from sleep, lasting 6-7 hours, not improving with standard analgesics; pulsating;

associated to cold perspiration and a state of dizziness, which the patient described „as ifdrunk, but I haven’t drunk for ten years”.- Terrible pains in the calves, after walking 100-150 meters (intermittent claudication), butalso when in rest, with fasciculations; aggravating by cold.- Restless sleep; waking from any noise.The patient presented many of the symptoms of Belladona, as well as the general type of thisremedy. However, the problem here was not so much the choice of a homeopathic remedy, but if itwas to prescribe a homeopathic remedy at all, facing the severe state of the patient. Clinical andlaboratory investigation had supplied reliable data, but the conventional treatment had not beensuccessful. So, I prescribed Belladona 9CH twice a day.On the second week the headache had frankly improved (70%), conjunctivitis had disappeared,claudication had improved (to 400 m.). VHS was still 60-80 mm (10/22/98). Treatment wascontinued, and all the symptoms continued to improve, in 12/04/98 VHS was 3-5 mm.
