Awin by the Bucs wouldhave been the first inTournament history bya No. 16 seed over a No.1 seed. ETSU controlledthe first half, leading byeight at the break. TheBucs and Sooners battledthroughout the second half, but when point guard Keith “Mr.” Jennings fouledout, ETSU’s fate was sealed. Oklahoma center Stacey King used a supermanperformance -- 28 points, 10 rebounds -- to assure his team of advancing.ETSU center Greg Dennis had 20 points and 15 rebounds.Jerry Pelphrey was a critical contributor to theBuccaneer cause in 1991. He later spent time on thecoaching staff at ETSU, under Coach Alan LeForce andEd DeChellis.Midwest RegionalMinneapolis, Minn.Another upset bidfell short, as the Bucsdropped a heartbreaking76-73 decision to Iowain the 1991 NCAATournament’s first round,on March 14, 1991. Englishscored a game-high25 points on 11-of-17shooting and also grabbeda team-high 10 boards.Jennings scored 11 points and added 13 assists.In one of the most incredible individual seasons ever, Jennings wastruly a star. The 14th-seedled the entire game andnever let the No. 3-seedWildcats get <strong>com</strong>fortable.Rodney English netted 21points to lead the charge.He also led the team withfive assists. Calvin Talford(15), Jason Niblett (13)and Trazel Silvers (12) alsoscored in double figures.The Bucs outscored theWildcats by 27 pointsfrom behind the arc. East TennesseeState, the 13th seed in the Atlanta Regional this year, nearly pulled off asurprise last year, falling by three points to Wake Forest.2010EastJunior Micah Williams scored a team high 19 points,but a Kentucky team loaded with NBA talent was toomuch for the Buccaneers.RegionalNew Orleans, LAIn a season whichsaw the ETSU men’s basketballteam over<strong>com</strong>emultiple obstacles toeven reach the NCAATournament, the Bucsgave up a season-high54 points in the firsthalf while facing a teamthat was hitting on allcylinders offensively, asthe 16th-seeded Bucshad no answers for No.1 seed Kentucky in a100-71 first round loss.The Wildcats, consideredby many to be the mosttalented team in the tournament, certainly looked the part en route tohanding the Bucs their largest deficit in nine previous NCAA trips.
