This year a very strong field of 14 finalists was put forward by theTransition Year <strong>St</strong>aff to be interviewed by a panel comprising three SACA committeemembers. Whilst all 14 students are winners having come that far, Danielle Quinnand Eoin Buttanshaw were selected as the two students who best exemplify thespirit of Transition Year. Congratulations to Nancy Harris (1998) who wonthe new playwright bursary (valued at €8,000) in the<strong>2012</strong> <strong>St</strong>ewart Parker Trust Awards <strong>2012</strong> for her playNo Romance which was commissioned by The Abbeyand received its world premiere at The Peacock inMarch 2011.It was Nancy’s first work to be professionallyproduced.Clare O’Malley (2006) (left of the 2 girls in the photo)has been very busy lately; she was one of the twobacking singers with Jedward representing Ireland atthe Eurovision Song Contest in Baku in Azerbaijan!Sadly they didn’t win but they certainly gave a fantasticperformance and did Ireland proud!Not only was Clare at Eurovision she has just finishedworkshopping a new musical at Rough Magic TheatreCompany written by Bill Whelan and Arthur Riordan.She will shortly be opening in a new musical calledMONSTER/CLOCK at Smock Alley Theatre.Engagements:Congratulations to:Anna Turpin (Class of 1998) on her engagement to Eoin LennonKatherine Lyall (Class of 1999) on her engagement to Garrett RyanBirths:Congratulations to:Leigh Arnold (1997) and <strong>St</strong>eve on the birth of their baby boy Hunter James<strong>St</strong>ewart Kelly (2002) and Ryan on the birth of their baby daughter HarrietDeaths:Sincere sympathy to the families and friends of two of our alumni who diedrecently—Rob Lee (1938) who attended <strong>St</strong> Andrew’s when it was located in <strong>St</strong><strong>St</strong>ephen’s Green and John Heueston (1952) who attended school in Clyde Roadand was at the Clyde Road Lunch last month celebrating the 60 year reunion of theclass of 1952.

Current students can benefitenormously from help and advice from alumni. With the advantage of hindsightyou can give something back by giving up a small amount of your time.Alternatively, would you be willing to be interviewed by Transition Year studentsabout your schooldays? For these interviews we are particularly keen to hear ofthe experiences of alumni from <strong>St</strong> <strong>St</strong>ephen’s Green and Clyde Road. They arerecorded and kept for the <strong>College</strong> Archives.If any of the above options appeal to you please contact Sally Walker onswalker@st-andrews.ieDevelopment News -<strong>2012</strong> Annual Appealto SAC AlumniIn June we will be launching the <strong>2012</strong>Annual Appeal to Alumni when we willbe appealing for an annual donation of€100 from all alumni. We werethinking of calling it the "CappuccinoAppeal” as it equates to the price of aweekly cappuccino for the year! Ofcourse, if you drink more than onecup a day we would gladly acceptdonations in excess of this amount!We would like to thank those alumniwho have already contributed to ourDevelopment Appeal in the past.The <strong>College</strong> had to borrow €6 million inorder to build the new East WingBuilding. After a great deal of persuasion, Alan Lewis agreed to join the FacebookGroup set up to advertise the event and bring classmates who haven’t been in touchwith each other for 30 years back together. After much banter and reminiscing itlooks as if we’re on track for a great night at our first visit to The Westbury. Wealready have three alumni signed up for this dinner in October!10 & 20 Year Reunions for the Classes of 2002 and 1992Saturday 10 November <strong>2012</strong>Reception at <strong>St</strong> Andrew’s <strong>College</strong> followed by dinner in the <strong>Dublin</strong> CityHilton.Facebook Groups are set up for these two years and if you left school in 1992 or2002 please join them to keep up to date on arrangements for this event.Booking forms for both events will be sent out at the end ofAugust.We will keep you updated on all Alumni events by email and on Facebook.
