Combined Credential/Masters Program<br />

The Combined Credential/Masters program is a full-time,<br />

16-month program completed in four semesters, including summer.<br />

Bilingual Authorization (formerly BCLAD)<br />

A Multiple Subject Credential with a bilingual-bicultural<br />

(Spanish-English) emphasis is available. Contact Dr. Jennifer Ponder<br />

(jponder@fullerton.edu) for more information about these programs.<br />

Admission Procedures <strong>and</strong> Criteria<br />

Admission to the university does not include admission to<br />

the Multiple Subject Credential Program. Students must apply for<br />

admission to the Multiple Subject Credential Program the semester<br />

prior to anticipated enrollment in the program. Filing deadlines are<br />

Feb. 28 (to begin the program the following fall) <strong>and</strong> Sept. 30 (to<br />

begin the program the following spring). Check the website for<br />

details <strong>and</strong> application procedures: http://ed.fullerton.edu/EDEL/<br />

MSCP.html. Students must also apply to the university.<br />

Applicants for admission into the Multiple Subject Credential<br />

Program are evaluated at several transition points measuring c<strong>and</strong>idates’<br />

progress toward meeting program outcomes as outlined in<br />

the College of Education’s conceptual framework. Specifically, these<br />

include knowledge (scholarship, breadth of underst<strong>and</strong>ing), skills<br />

(professional aptitude, physical <strong>and</strong> mental fitness) <strong>and</strong> dispositions<br />

(character). Evidence related to these criteria that is assessed at time<br />

of application includes:<br />

■ Overall grade point average at least 2.75 (3.0 for combined<br />

program) for the last 60 units<br />

■ Passage of the <strong>California</strong> Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET)<br />

■ Completion of the <strong>California</strong> Basic Education Skills Test<br />

(CBEST) <strong>and</strong> passage of the written portion of this test<br />

■ Satisfactory completion of prerequisite courses<br />

■ Recommendations from academic faculty, school personnel <strong>and</strong>/<br />

or other appropriate persons<br />

■ Autobiography<br />

■ Interview with Education Faculty members<br />

Program faculty <strong>and</strong> staff also conduct informal assessments of<br />

applicants’ suitability for teaching throughout prerequisite courses<br />

<strong>and</strong> the application process. Further evidence is provided subsequent<br />

to application when opportunity is provided for verification of<br />

tuberculosis screening <strong>and</strong> certificate of clearance that verifies the<br />

absence of a criminal record.<br />

Program Continuation<br />

Once admitted, continuation in the program is based on<br />

continuous <strong>and</strong> satisfactory progress as assessed at specific transition<br />

points throughout the program, including passage of the <strong>California</strong><br />

Teaching Performance Assessments (TPA).<br />

Application for Teaching Credentials<br />

Upon completion of a multiple subject credential program the<br />

credential c<strong>and</strong>idate must submit an application to the Commission<br />

on Teacher Credentialing through the CSUF credential analyst <strong>and</strong><br />

verify passage of the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment<br />

(RICA). The credential analyst is located in the Credential Preparation<br />

Center in College Park 740. Additional information on the credential<br />

application process is available in the Credential Preparation Center.<br />

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION (30 UNITS)<br />

Admission to Graduate St<strong>and</strong>ing – Conditionally Classified<br />

<strong>University</strong> requirements include a baccalaureate from an accredited<br />

institution <strong>and</strong> a grade-point average of at least 3.0 in the<br />

last 60 semester units attempted.<br />

BILINGUAL/BICULTURAL EDUCATION<br />

CONCENTRATION<br />

Graduate St<strong>and</strong>ing – Classified<br />

A student who meets the admission requirements <strong>and</strong> the<br />

following requirements may be granted classified graduate st<strong>and</strong>ing:<br />

■ Development of an approved study plan<br />

■ Basic teaching credential or equivalent experience;<br />

■ Approved major (minimum of 24 units upper division or graduate)<br />

■ 3.0 grade-point average on previous academic <strong>and</strong> related work<br />

■ Language competence (English <strong>and</strong> Spanish) as determined by<br />

satisfactory interviews or coursework<br />

■ Completion of SPAN 466<br />

Credit will be given for previous postbaccalaureate studies<br />

when possible. Otherwise, well-qualified students may be admitted<br />

with limited subject or grade deficiencies, but these deficiencies must<br />

be removed.<br />
