September 5 - 7, and you are<br />

invited! Make plans to attend.<br />

You’ll enjoy the fabulous city<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chicago, and renew relationships<br />

with friends and fellow<br />

alumni. On Friday, Sept. 5,<br />

we’re planning the class reunion<br />

and alumni awards reception,<br />

banquet and hospitality suite at<br />

the InterContinental Chicago.<br />

On Sunday, we have Continuing<br />

Education, and in between we’re<br />

scheduling a roster <strong>of</strong> events for<br />

you to enjoy. Hope to see you in<br />

September.<br />

On another note, have you<br />

visited the excellent <strong>ICO</strong><br />

website lately? Go to the<br />

<strong>College</strong>’s homepage at<br />

www.ico.edu. Among the<br />

wealth <strong>of</strong> information there,<br />

you can take a virtual tour <strong>of</strong><br />

campus, make comments to<br />

the alumni <strong>of</strong>fice and send<br />

personal news – the <strong>College</strong><br />

wants to hear from you. And<br />

in the near future, you will find<br />

a new online alumni directory.<br />

As always, thank you for your<br />

continual support <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Illinois</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Optometry</strong> Alumni<br />

Association. And thank you to<br />

all the alumni and friends that<br />

currently support the <strong>College</strong><br />

Robert L. Grazian, OD ’82<br />

President, <strong>ICO</strong> Alumni Council<br />

<strong>ICO</strong> Community Kudos<br />

Steven A. Levin, OD ’73, has been inducted into the<br />

National Academies <strong>of</strong> Practice. Levin was one <strong>of</strong><br />

seven optometrists from all over the U.S. to become<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the prestigious Academy. He has practiced in<br />

Whiting, Ind., for more than 34 years.<br />

Shelley Wu, OD ’01 <strong>of</strong> Manteca, Calif., was named<br />

2007 Young Optometrist <strong>of</strong> the Year by the<br />

California Optometric Association. She was honored<br />

for her contributions to organized optometry, her<br />

local optometric society, the Alameda Contra Costa<br />

Counties Optometric Society (ACCCOS), and to her<br />

community. Wu currently practices at Central Valley<br />

Eye Medical Group in Manteca and Stockton.<br />

Larry Van Daalen, OD ’87, has been elected<br />

president <strong>of</strong> the Iowa Optometric Association.<br />

He is pictured here with <strong>ICO</strong> President, Dr. Arol<br />

Augsburger, at the IOA convention this year.<br />

Pete Kehoe, OD ’84, was named AOA<br />

president at <strong>Optometry</strong>’s Meeting in Seattle this<br />

year. He practices in Galesburg, Ill.<br />

(right), were recognized at <strong>ICO</strong>’s alumni<br />

reception at the AOA meeting in June.<br />

Horstman was named president <strong>of</strong> the<br />

International Association <strong>of</strong> Optometric<br />

Executives, and Kesteloot received the<br />

Apollo Award, the AOA’s highest honor<br />

for a non-optometrist.<br />

<strong>ICO</strong> President, Dr. Arol Augsburger, received the American Optometric<br />

Association’s prestigious Distinguished Service Award at the AOA meeting in<br />

June. Of the citation he said, “The effectiveness <strong>of</strong> my efforts has only been<br />

possible in states that were committed to leadership and positive change in<br />

optometry. Through combined efforts, the public has benefited by substantial<br />

change in the way optometric care is delivered to the American public. I’m<br />

proud to have had you all in partnership for these important accomplishments.”<br />

This year, Augsburger also became President <strong>of</strong> Rotary One, the oldest Rotary Club<br />

in the world.<br />
