In late 2009, six local bands, from backgrounds ranging fromfolk to electr<strong>on</strong>ica, were given a DVD c<strong>on</strong>taining a seven minute silent film,and invited to write and perform a new soundtrack for the film. Drawinginspirati<strong>on</strong> from the rich heritage of silent film scores, the bands have comeup with six different takes <strong>on</strong> the same source material.<strong>The</strong> film itself, <strong>The</strong> Breakwater Light – a haunting and intimate explorati<strong>on</strong> ofdelusi<strong>on</strong> set in Berwick – was written and directed by <strong>The</strong> <strong>Maltings</strong>’ ArtisticDirector Miles Gregory and was originally screened as part of the BerwickFilm and Media Arts Festival back in 2007 (see page 11 for further details).CDs of the six bands' new scores will be available <strong>on</strong> the night.
