1006 MARINE CORPS SEPARATION AND RETIREMENT MANUALb. The comm<strong>and</strong>ing officer at the old duty station shall:*(1) Counsel the member on the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) per MCOP1741.11 series;(2) Ensure that the service record <strong>and</strong> medical records (health <strong>and</strong>dental) accompany the member to the <strong>separation</strong> activity;(3) Ensure a <strong>separation</strong> physical is completed;(4) Submit to the <strong>separation</strong> activity, before the Marine's deta<strong>ch</strong>ment,travel <strong>and</strong> arrival information of the member <strong>and</strong> dependants in addition tobiographical information on the member suitable for reading at a <strong>retirement</strong> or<strong>separation</strong> ceremony, should the Marine desire one at the <strong>separation</strong> site;(5) Advise the Marine that dislocation allowance (DLA) <strong>and</strong> proceedare not authorized in conjunction with travel to the home of selection (HOS),or in the execution of orders (MCC W95) to a CONUS based <strong>separation</strong> site; <strong>and</strong>(6) Comply with instructions in paragraphs 1101; 2004 (retiringofficers); <strong>and</strong> 7005 <strong>and</strong> 7007 (retiring enlisted).*6. Exceptions. Marines stationed overseas who are eligible for <strong>separation</strong><strong>and</strong> who desire <strong>separation</strong> at a Marine Corps activity not listed in paragraph1006.5, will request (MCC W95) orders via naval message to CMC (MMIA) <strong>and</strong> infoCMC (MMEA/MMOA) for <strong>separation</strong> at that activity. Marines with family membersin Government quarters at a CONUS site must request <strong>separation</strong> at that site.*a. These requests will not normally be approved unless a humanitarian orhardship situation exists, or the Marine can demonstrate that the locationrequested is the closest location to where they are establishing a permanentpost service residence. Documentation considered as acceptable in this caseincludes (but is not limited to): TMO documents that list a location near theproposed <strong>separation</strong> site as the final household goods destination, a bona fideemployment offer in the proposed <strong>separation</strong> site vicinity or proof of legalpermanent residence at the proposed <strong>separation</strong>s site.*b. Required Paragraph in Orders. Orders issued by the CMC (MMOA/MMEA)authorizing Marines to proceed to a station not listed in paragraph 1006.5 for<strong>separation</strong> processing will include the following paragraph:"At your request you are authorized to report to (name <strong>and</strong> location ofactivity) instead of (the <strong>separation</strong> activity in the United States to whi<strong>ch</strong>ordered) for <strong>separation</strong> processing. Entitlement to reimbursement for mileageor expenses will be determined by the JFTR <strong>and</strong> MCO P4650.37 series MarineCorps Travel Instructions Manual (MCTIM), as applicable. Travel time inexcess of that authorized for the direct travel will be <strong>ch</strong>arged as leave. Ifyou do not desire to bear additionally incurred expenses, this authorizationis revoked <strong>and</strong> you will report as directed in your basic orders.
