FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<strong>IICRC</strong> <strong>Exam</strong> <strong>Accepted</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Mold</strong> <strong>Remediation</strong> <strong>Licensure</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Florida</strong>Individuals who have successfully completed <strong>IICRC</strong> <strong>Mold</strong> Removal Specialist (MRS)exam are now able to become licensed mold remediators <strong>in</strong> the “Sunsh<strong>in</strong>e State”Vancouver, Wash.—July 18, 2013—The Institute of Inspection Clean<strong>in</strong>g andRestoration Certification (<strong>IICRC</strong>) today announced that its <strong>Mold</strong> Removal Specialist(MRS) certification exam is accepted <strong>for</strong> applicants seek<strong>in</strong>g mold remediation licensure<strong>in</strong> the state of <strong>Florida</strong>. The MRS program is the <strong>IICRC</strong>’s first stand alone, s<strong>in</strong>gle examcertification. It recognizes professionals who have the knowledge and skills necessaryto per<strong>for</strong>m a variety of duties, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g: per<strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g mold remediation <strong>for</strong> structures andcontents, controll<strong>in</strong>g pressure differentials, design<strong>in</strong>g and implement<strong>in</strong>g remediationprocesses and recogniz<strong>in</strong>g conditions conducive to mold growth.“This approval validates the <strong>in</strong>tegrity and high quality of the MRS program and furtheradvances the <strong>IICRC</strong> curriculum and certification as an <strong>in</strong>dustry-lead<strong>in</strong>g resource <strong>for</strong>those look<strong>in</strong>g to become specialists <strong>in</strong> the clean<strong>in</strong>g and restoration <strong>in</strong>dustry,” said ScottArmour, Chairman of the <strong>IICRC</strong>’s <strong>Mold</strong> Removal Specialist (MRS) certification program.“We anticipate <strong>Florida</strong> will be the first of many states that will adopt our exam andcertification program <strong>for</strong> licensure requirements.”In wet or humid climates like <strong>Florida</strong>, mold growth and contam<strong>in</strong>ation is a seriousproblem <strong>in</strong> build<strong>in</strong>gs. Work<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>IICRC</strong> MRS-certified mold removal contractors helpsto assure quality remediation, which is the goal of the state licens<strong>in</strong>g requirement.Consumers can use this certification as a qualification when select<strong>in</strong>g a contractor <strong>in</strong>any state and any country—not just <strong>Florida</strong>.Though the MRS Certification Program does not require classroom tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, <strong>IICRC</strong> hastra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g courses <strong>in</strong> the mold <strong>in</strong>dustry available to help prepare contractors and workers<strong>for</strong> the MRS certification exam <strong>in</strong> the U.S., Canada and throughout other globallocations. With<strong>in</strong> the new guidel<strong>in</strong>es, candidates who pass the MRS exam<strong>in</strong>ation will still need tomeet the experience requirements listed <strong>in</strong> 468.8413, <strong>Florida</strong> statutes <strong>in</strong> order to belicensed as mold remediators <strong>in</strong> <strong>Florida</strong>.
