Join us for an unforgettable music experience in Austria with performances of Felix
Mendelssohn’s Elijah (in German) and Joseph Haydn’s Harmoniemesse.
One of the most exciting features of the festival is rehearsing and performing in
amazing venues like the Esterházy Palace, considered one of the great historic and
acoustically perfect concert halls in Europe. You will also have a rare opportunity to
perform the Harmoniemesse within the high mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna,
the Bergkirche in Eisenstadt, and the Pfarrkirche in Mattersburg. This unique
opportunity to study and perform in the same acoustical settings that fostered the
musical genius of composers like Joseph Haydn, Beethoven and others, helps bring
classical music alive for today’s musician.
An international piano seminar, under the direction of Dr. Jane Magrath at the
University of Oklahoma, is also offered under the auspices of the Classical Music

Participants need to depart the United States by Friday, August 2nd for arrival at Vienna
Schwechat Airport on August 3rd. Festival staff will meet arriving planes and other
travelers on Saturday, August 3rd at the Vienna Schwechat Airport for bus transfer to
hotels. If you are traveling in Europe on your own before the festival, you can make
arrangements to meet our buses at the Vienna Airport on August 3rd for transportation
to Eisenstadt. The Festival will also provide bus transportation back to the airport
on August 16. Participants arriving or departing outside of those dates are responsible

NOTE: Participants should be prepared for regular walking to and from rehearsals. All rehearsals are in a walking distance
of three to six long blocks. The Esterházy Palace and Bergkirche involve two flights of stairs.

attending the entire Festival.

The festival is offered at the following cost depending on your
enrollment category:
• Chorus members - basic fee of $1,295 double occupancy
• Orchestra members - $695 double occupancy (the remainder of the
fee is subsidized by the Burgenland government)
• Observers (non-performing friends and family members) - $1,395
double occupancy
• Piano Seminar Participants - $1,395
Festival fee includes: housing, daily breakfasts, festival receptions and
several meals, bus transportation to and from the Vienna Airport on the
scheduled arrival/departure dates, admission to all festival concerts and
lectures, bus transportation and tours listed on the official festival itinerary.
Single rooms and hotel upgrades are available at an additional cost. The
festival fee does not include air travel. Participants are responsible for their
own airfare arrangements to and from Vienna. Optional tours on
August 9th are an additional cost.

should include a nonrefundable deposit of $100.00. Balances are payable
in full by June 1, 2013 and all payments are nonrefundable after that time,
except in case of a certifiable emergency explained in writing. Payments
are accepted using check or money order.
Eisenstadt, The City of Joseph Haydn
Eisenstadt, the capital of the federal province of Burgenland since 1925, is situated on the
southern slopes of the Leitha Mountains. Surrounded by a great number of vineyards,
Eisenstadt is the smallest federal capital of Austria, with only 13,250 inhabitants. The
resident atmosphere of the festival sets the program apart from the typical European
“tour.” Participants live in Eisenstadt, where Haydn served the Hungarian nobility for
more than 30 years. There is an opportunity to truly get to know this quaint town which
fostered the genius of Haydn, Beethoven and others. In no time at all, participants will
call Eisenstadt their “home away from home.”

Richard Zielinski, artistic director and principal conductor, has conducted orchestras and choruses throughout
Europe, Asia and North America. Zielinski serves as director of choral activities and chair of the graduate choral
studies at the School of Music, University of Oklahoma, Norman. He is the conductor of the Norman Philhar
monic as well as the founder and director of The Richard Zielinski Singers, a 32-voice professional choir. Zielinski
received his degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Eastman School of Music and University of Illinois.

Don V Moses, founding director and Conductor Emeritus, is former director of the School of Music at
the University of Illinois. With his love of Haydn and vision for musical performances, he founded the festival
in 1975 and provided the leadership for 25 years of successful concerts, lectures and seminars in Eisenstadt,
