Welcome to the phenomenon of <strong>War</strong> <strong>Horse</strong>, theculminating event in <strong>Hennepin</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> <strong>Trust</strong>’scurrent Broadway season. We’re proud to bring youthis rare artistic experience, called “a landmark theatre event” byTime Magazine and “theatrical magic” by the New York Times,which won five 2011 Tony Awards including Best Play. It is basedon English author and Children’s Laureate Michael Murpurgo’sbeloved novel which also inspired Steven Spielberg’s feature filmthat garnered six Oscar nominations including Best Picture!This epic National <strong>Theatre</strong> of Great Britain production is thepowerful story of young Albert’s beloved horse, Joey, who isconscripted to fight for the English in World <strong>War</strong> I. At the heart ofthe show are life-sized puppets designed by South Africa’sHandspring Puppet Company, which bring breathing, galloping,charging horses and other animals to thrilling life on stage. The Handspring Puppet Company,known locally for collaborating with the Walker Art Center, won a special Tony Award for this show.While this season may be drawing to a close, we’re already heralding the fantastic newBroadway lineup at the Orpheum in 2013/14. Among six Minnesota debuts that you don’twant to miss are Once, the 2012 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical, and Peter and theStarcatcher, winner of five Tony Awards! The season also features the spectacular new 25 thanniversary production of The Phantom of the Opera, the Queen tribute We Will Rock You,Sister Act, Ghost The Musical and the seductive Evita. Audience favorites Les Misérables,Wicked and Mamma Mia! are back as special additions.
