If we exclude DenisBuntić and Mirko Alilović, CroatianNational Team players, whohave not said their final word inhandball, many would give theirvote to Zdenko Sušac-Zdena.Not fully 13 years old, thecoach of Izviđač at that time – IbroAlendar – joined you to the firstteam’s trainings?“Since we were higherthan our colleagues, the coachgave me and Majstoriović anopportunity to play with the first team which atthat time consisted of: Hrnjičević, Lukenda, Škorput,Markić…’’Your talent was not left unnoticed. The secondleagueteam, Boras from Čapljina, brought you into itsteam?‘’In Borac I spent four years (since 1997 till 1980)together with Mladen Škorput. The Second Leaguewas strong, we were trained by Mirko Novković, and wealso had a splendid team.”What followed was coming back to Ljubuški?‘’A young generation of handball players fromLjubuški was ready to play, we were enhanced byNikolac and Zlojić, playing the most beautiful handballin the Republican League. Unfortunately, there wereno conditions for a further step.”You spent one season in Metković as well?‘’In the season of 1989/90 I was plaing for Mehanika(Metković) in the First ‘’B’’ League of Yugoslavia,together with Goluža, Kaleb, Bokan…’’You said your final farewell to active handballplaying at the age of 35?‘’I realized that there were younger and betterplayers appearing. I played my last season 1995/96 inthe colours of my dearest club Izviđač and said goodbyewith the title of the champion of Herceg-Bosna”.After having finished your playing career, you stayedin handball working as a coach for younger categoriesof the CHC “Izviđač”?‘’While I still was playing actively, I used to coach thecadets players of the Women’s handball club “Izviđač”so that the job was not something unknown for me. Ihand my fingers in the coaching of the present CroatianNational Team members, such as:Buntić, Alilović andMatić. For some time I was an assistant to the coachJosip Glavaš in the first team.’’You watch all the games of Izviđač on a regularbasis?‘’Mostly yes. Izviđač has a young, perspective teamthat has potential. I believe that in a few years’ time,when these young boys are ready, we will be watchingthe strongest European temas in Ljubuški.”Sušac also added:‘’There have always been talented people in theseregions.
