<strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> <strong>Woodturners</strong> Page No 7 <strong>August</strong> 2003<strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> Woodturner’s3 rd Annual Mini-SymposiumWe are please to announce that the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> <strong>Woodturners</strong> will be hosting its 3 rd annual mini-symposiumon Saturday, <strong>August</strong> 16 th from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm The event has been expanded to include fourdemonstration stations with four rotations eachWe are also very excited to announce that Phil Brennion, a worldclassturner, teacher and AAW Vice President from Prescott, AZ,will be on-hand for a rotation and to address local chapter concernswith the AAW For those that have not had the opportunity tohear Phil present, you are in for a real treatThe fee for the symposium will be $20 for members of the <strong>San</strong><strong>Diego</strong> <strong>Woodturners</strong> and $25 for guests No pre-registration isnecessaryWe will provide a deli service for lunch for about $550 (sandwich, chips and soda), or you may go toone of the nearby fast-food establishmentsThe topics include:· Basic Turning Cuts – Gouges, parting tools and skews· Center saving· Wood Orientation for Grain, Color and Yield· Weedpots· Ponderosa Pine Vessels· Turning Spheres and Eggs· Chainsaw Maintenance and Use· Novice Projects· Carving & Texturing· Hollow Forms, Design and Techniques· Simple, Beginner Boxes· Small Spindle Turnings· Suction Fit Boxes· Hollowing through the bottom· Finishing and Buffing· Hollow vessels on a small latheLast year’s event had over 100 participants This year’s symposiumshould be bigger and better!
