This is a basketball and this is where I do most ofwork!Duration of gameTime outsTwo time outs per team, per halfRebounding- Players should assume that every shotwill miss. Getting possession of me aftera missed shot is called reboundingJump ball is when two playersequally contest possession of me,a jump ball is called.A jump ball is also used to starteach half of play.Coaches be aware of the level of competition.

It is very important that the team with me keeps themselveswell spread around the court, otherwise the game would looklike this. Each team has five players on court and may have as may as fivesubstitutes who can replace any other player when the refereesays it’s OK.No one can play, surrounded by nine playersA player being subbed off MAY be put back into the gameany time a coach wantsGood spacing lets everyone have a go at the basket. All playersnow can dribble, shoot or pass when they have me.The team holding me is on OFFENSE. The team without meis on DEFENCE – trying to stop the offensive team fromscoring. The defence should always try to stay between thebasket and the players they are guarding.

The purpose of the games is to throw me through the basketIf a player makes five fouls in a game he cannot play any morein that game. When this happens the player throwing me has “shot twopoints”, and his team’s score is increased by two. One teamshoots at the basket at one end of the court and the otherteam at the other end. After a score, the team notscoring throws me in frombehind the end of the court tore-start play.Good shooters put one handunder me with the wristcocked. The other handbalances me in shooting hand. The while arm pushes me upinto the air while the wristflicks me towards thebasket. After a violation the team getting me throws me in to play frombehind the sideline of the court nearest to where the violationhappened.

If a foul is made on a player who is trying to shoot..There are two ways a team may move the ball up the court to ashooting position.By dribbling with one hand....and the shot misses, theshooter is given free shotsfrom the free-throw line. The teams line-up as shown. Each foul shot is worth onepoint. After the last shot istaken, the game goes on as ifit were a normal shot.Ooff, ooffOr by passingPassing is a lot faster–and a lot more fun

A player holding me must always keep one of his feet on aspot on the floor – unless he dribbles, passes or shoots. Theplayer is like a compass and mat pivot around this foot.Once a player has stopped dribbling by touching me with bothhands – he cannot dribble again, but he may pivot, pass or shoot. If a player moves this footoff the spot withoutdribbling, passing orshooting, he has committeda travelling violation and theother team gets me.No player may use contact to “put off” an oppositionplayer. If he does, he has FOULED!I have to be kept in the court of play. The team who causesme to hit something ON or OUTSIDE the boundary lines hascommitted a violation and the other team gets me.
