Joseph’s <strong>College</strong>...Dear Friends in Christ,President’s MessageAs you may have noticed from the revitalized look <strong>of</strong> our <strong>Christmas</strong> <strong>Update</strong>,this year has brought a multitude <strong>of</strong> changes to <strong>St</strong>. Joseph’s <strong>College</strong>. We have bidfarewell to our former President, Fr. Timothy Scott, csb; our Academic Dean,Dr. Kenneth Munro; our Director <strong>of</strong> Residence, Fr. Glenn McDonald, csb; ourChief Financial Officer, Tracy Yurchak; and our Finance Assistant, AshleyBlum, and seen them <strong>of</strong>f into new endeavours. In addition, due to organizationalrestructuring, we have also said goodbye to Mr. Ronald Laginski, our formerDirector <strong>of</strong> Facilities and Public Relations, thanking him for his years <strong>of</strong> service,and wishing him well in the future.Although you will see the <strong>College</strong> continue to undergo changes in the comingyear, from staff restructuring to continued building renovations, I hope that youwill look forward with us to a fresh perspective and a renewed spirit <strong>of</strong> vitality.I invite you to discover some <strong>of</strong> the highlighted events and programs in thisupdate, showcasing what <strong>St</strong>. Joe’s has been doing this year, and our goals forfuture programs and projects.I am confident that the <strong>College</strong> can continue our growth in student outreach,academic excellence, faith formation, and community building. The New Face <strong>of</strong> Campus MinistryWhat can we say? Reality television takes its toll on the young, the oldand the institutional! This year Campus Ministry has undergonea program and facility facelift.We are proud to report that our Wednesday Nights at <strong>St</strong>.Joe’s events have been vibrant and well attended, encompassingactivities such as trips to a hockey game, the symphony, and opera; afall BBQ, mixer and a Thanksgiving celebration; dance lessons; theologydiscussions; and even a movie night in our newly renovated student lounge!Keeping with our outreach to a new digital generation, Campus Ministry has alsorefurbished the upstairs kitchen, and installed state <strong>of</strong> the art television signage. We areexcited to provide weekly event listings, course advertisements, live streaming weather andCBC news! Your continued support <strong>of</strong> this project ensures that <strong>St</strong>. Joe’s remainsvibrant and accessible to students and friends both young and old!We hope that you enjoy participating vicariously in our programs, as muchas we love hosting them! Times Have Changed...but Our Newman Kitchen Hasn’t!Does this kitchen look familiar? Generations <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>.Joe’s students and alumni can probablyrespond with a resounding “YES!”While students, friends, and members <strong>of</strong>the faith community have enjoyed usingthe Newman Centre for decades, there arereminders, both friendly and unsightly, <strong>of</strong> allthose fun times and freeze-frame moments.This <strong>Christmas</strong> season, we hope to receiveyour pledges <strong>of</strong> support for the final stage <strong>of</strong>our Newman Centre renovations: our ghastlykitchen. <strong>St</strong>. Joseph’s <strong>College</strong> will be hosting avariety <strong>of</strong> exiting events in the new year, andwe want to restore the glory era <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. Joe’s, notdemonstrate it in living and aging colour through adated facility!Tying in with our revitalized Campus Ministry andoutreach programs, we wish to <strong>of</strong>fer our students,alumni and friends a proper space to prepare mealsand cater their functions! The newly refurbishedNewman Centre hall has helped to breathe newlife into <strong>St</strong>. Joe’s. <strong>St</strong>udents have danced the night away,eaten, drunk, and been merry throughout the year!We hope that you will contribute to the final stage <strong>of</strong> our project and thereby help toreenergize the Newman Centre as a focul point for student activities and other functions. Approximately 300 guestsjoined us this year for an evening <strong>of</strong> entertainment and fine dining at theSutton Place Hotel.The evening included a livepianist during the cocktailreception, a silent auction, liveauction, delicious meal, andan excellent DJ to accompanydancing into the night.One <strong>of</strong> the highlights <strong>of</strong> theGala was the draw for a trip forfour to Orlando, Florida, which was won by the charming Fr.
