It was awarded the10-year contract to carry out upgrade works (to meet the more stringent emission standardsand to also treat clinical waste) and operate the Chemical Waste Treatment Centre (CWTC)for the Environmental Protection Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government. TheCentre provides a cradle-to-grave solution for all land-based chemical waste generated inHong Kong, as well as collection and treatment services for marine pollutants (MARPOLwaste) generated from ocean-going vessels.The CWTC is the only chemical waste treatment centre in Hong Kong and one of the mostcomprehensive and sophisticated hazardous waste treatment facilities in Asia. It is designedand operated according to very stringent international environmental and safety standards.Main ActivitiesThe Chemical Waste Treatment Centre (CWTC) provides collection, treatment and disposalservices for almost all types of chemical waste generated in Hong Kong. The service packageprovided by the CWTC includes:■ Customer services;■ Waste analysis and classification;■ Lab pack services;■ Collection of both sea-based and land-based waste;■ Treatment and recovery of waste, such as mercury and copper oxide;■ Emergency response services.Treatment processes include incineration, physical/chemical treatment, oil/water separation,stabilization, copper and mercury recovery.CertificationLaboratory listed in the Hong Kong Laboratory Accredited Scheme since 1995.
