Historia Numorum Italy 296.Ex Triton sale X, 2007, 508.Crawford attributes this issue to the Messana mint without understanding that this coin is part of an issue made up of threedenominations: this coin, the double-unit (Cr. 23/1), the unit (Cr. 16) and the half unit (Cr. 17). We are of the opinion thatthis issue was struck by the mint of Naples. For a more extensive explanation of this theory see Numismatica Sottovoce. In spite of Roberto’s arguments to the contrary, for this coin I prefer the traditional attribution to Messana.
