In the staggered formation, an individualrider will ride in either the left or right tire track, two (2) seconds behind the rider ahead and one (1)second behind the rider in the other tire track. Riders will adjust their choice of tire track to conform tothe riders ahead.Riders will use single file in curves or on roads where the road surface or width or other conditionswarrant.Lane. Riders “own” the entire width of a lane. Riders will not encroach on the lane space or pass therider ahead.Passing. If the group ride leader decides to pass a vehicle eg car or truck, each rider will pass thevehicle (if safe to do so) and move into the right tire track. If the right tire track is their usual positionin the formation, the rider will remain in that track. If the riders normal position is the left tire track,he/she will adjust his/her position after the rider behind has passed the vehicle and is ready to or hasstarted to move into the right tire track.Controlled intersections. If a group becomes separated at a traffic light, the last rider in the groupbecomes the temporary sweeper; and, the first rider in the separated group becomes the temporarygroup leader.1 With thanks to Pierre Thibaudeau, BMW “Adventure Rider” and inspiration from GWRRA and Eastern Ontario HOG.
