FundingThe <strong>Police</strong> Rehabilitation Centre operates Flint House in Goring,Oxfordshire at a cost of £3.6 million each year, funded principallyby donations from serving police officers.To access the Centre for a free of charge residential stay all that isrequested from an officer is a very small weekly donationOther funds come from donations from retired officers and theirassociations, bequests and income generation.No Government or Force funding is received.


Our AimThe main aim of Flint House is to provide a centre where servingand retired police officers can benefit from rest, recuperation,intensive physiotherapy and a range of complementary treatments,in peaceful and well-maintained surroundings to aid their return tobetter health and wellbeing.The <strong>Police</strong> Rehabilitation Centre services are provided for servingand retired officers from 29 of the UK police forces., with 140 bedsover 125 single rooms, 6 Double rooms and 2 family flats.


Physiotherapy Treatment<strong>About</strong> 80% of attending officers receive physiotherapy treatment.The centre’s team of dedicated Chartered Physiotherapists deviseindividual treatment programmes based on the officers needs. Theyalso run strength and fitness classes specific to certain injuries andconditions.Treatments include: hands-on physiotherapy; hydrotherapy:acupuncture; directed and programmed exercise, both individuallyand in groups.


Non-physio careIn addition to physiotherapy treatment, a 24/7 nursing teamoperates programmes for individuals suffering from stress, anxietyand depression, these include:•Lifestyle and Personal Wellbeing workshops•Well person checks•Counselling•Personalised exercise and fitness plans•Complementary Therapies such as massage, acupuncture,aromatherapy.


Leisure and RelaxationAll officers can make use of the leisure and relaxation facilities atFlint House which includes:Gym and sports hallSwimming/hydrotherapy poolsSauna, Spa Bath and AromatherapyBoules, snooker/pool, putting and bowls.Local golf courses.Licensed Lounge Bar with large screen TV and regular quiz nights.Free-view TV in all rooms.Quiet lounges for those preferring privacy and relaxation.Courtesy mini-bus.


Support for the <strong>Police</strong> ServiceIn 2008, 3,124 officers in total attended Flint House. A figure thathas increased annually since the site opened at Goring in 1985.In the past 5 years over 665 <strong>West</strong> <strong>Midlands</strong> officers have benefittedfrom attendance at Flint HouseRecent research by one of the largest forces in the UK suggestofficers who have attended one of the two centres* in the UKreturn to work between six weeks and three months sooner thanthose who have not.* Flint House, Goring on Thames & The Northern <strong>Police</strong> Convalescent & Treatment Centre, Harrogate.


Issues affecting Flint HouseThe three main issues affecting Flint House are:• Donation levels across the forces served vary dramatically fromas low as 30% in one force to 97% in another.• Communication routes to serving and student officers• Lack of knowledge about and understanding of the charity.
