2010 San Diego NominationsSILVER CIRCLE INDUCTEESHonoringIndustry AchievementAnnouncing San DiegoSilver Circle HonoreesThe Gold Circle is open to individualswho began their careers in televisionat least 50 years ago and the SilverCircle at least 25 years ago, eitherin a performing, creative, technicalor administrative role within thetelevision industry or in an arearelated to television such as TVjournalism education, advertising,promotion, and public relations.The candidates must also have madea significant contribution to PacificSouthwest television for at least part oftheir career.Only current residentsof the Pacific Southwest region areeligible. Candidates are selected forevaluation and selection by the Goldand Silver Circle Committee. Eachyear, a special luncheon ceremony isheld recognizing their achievementsin television. This year, the date isSeptember 25, 2010.Laura BuxtonSilver Circle InducteeA thirty-year veteran of San Diego’s televisionbroadcasting community, Laura Buxton is one of theregion’s most versatile and recognizable personalities.Laura came to San Diego in 1980 where she was hiredby KCST (now KNSD) as news co-anchor then host and writer/producerof Weekend Magazine. For the last three years at the station she was coanchorof both the five and eleven o’clock news. In 1988, Laura went toKGTV to co-host and segment produce “Inside San Diego”.In August 1993 Laura went to KUSI and in 1994 began co-hosting theirmorning news show with Tom Blair, later replaced by Paul Bloom. In1998, Laura interviewed attorney Tim Cohelan and in 2000 she marriedhim. She left KUSI in 2002. Laura has done freelance work guesthosting segments on Channel 4 San Diego’s Forefront.Journalism was a natural for Laura. Her paternal grandfather was FrankW. Buxton; Pulitzer Prize winning editor for what was then The BostonHerald. Their ongoing correspondence over the years inspired a careerin journalism.Laura worked closely with the Muscular Dystrophy Association andThe March of Dimes. She co-hosted many of the MDA local telethonson KUSI. Laura was honored as San Diego Magazine’s “People toWatch”, recipient of The San Diego Business Journal’s “Women WhoMean Business Award,” recognized for her work by the YMCA, andnamed “Woman of the Year” by Irish Congress of San Diego. He was enrolled at SanDiego State University as an undeclared major through a scholarshipgiven to him by the San Diego State Marching Band.
