But how about listen<strong>in</strong>g to thefishes?The public <strong>art</strong> be<strong>in</strong>g unveiled Monday morn<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>Queen</strong> <strong>Elizabeth</strong> <strong>Pool</strong> isn’t much to look at, and thisis precisely the po<strong>in</strong>t. A first <strong>in</strong> our city <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> be<strong>in</strong>g a function<strong>in</strong>g, permanent public audio<strong><strong>in</strong>stallation</strong>, Sound Columns uses record<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> and near water systems from all over the city.Commissioned by the <strong>Edmonton</strong> Arts Council, these were captured and edited <strong>in</strong>to experimentalsoundscapes by Vancouver’s Andreas Kahre and Darren Coupland <strong>of</strong> Toronto.It’s p<strong>art</strong> music, p<strong>art</strong> natural history.
