<strong>PROJECT</strong> OVERVIEWThe proposed €24 million capital cost wind power project at Glashantooreen iscomposed of four clusters, covering the following townlands:Cluster 1; 2 turbines, FahaduffCluster 2; 4 turbines, AhaneboyCluster 3; 1 turbine, East of CummernagayCluster 4; 1 turbine, CummernagayThe proposed location of the project is in several townlands to the north of Castleisland,Co. Kerry. Specifically, these townlands are Fahaduff, Knockakip and Ahaneboy. Theproject area consists mainly of blanket bog and heath. There are also some small patchesof coniferous forestry within the site area. The total land take required for the proposedproject is less than 0.4% of the study area, which is defined as the site boundaries of theproperties involved in the project. Land use for all turbine bases will be 1520m 2 , andapproximately1km of new tracks will be required and approximately 5km of upgradedtrack to provide access to the turbines.The proposed wind farm is being developed by <strong>Organic</strong> <strong>Power</strong> Ltd., a new renewableenergy company based in Skibbereen, Co. Cork. A number of shareholders in this companycome from the Fahaduff - Ahaneboy area. <strong>Organic</strong> <strong>Power</strong> intend to develop a minimumof 125MW of carbon-free reliable electricity supply from a variety of renewable energysources for 2012. This power will be sold to end customers at a competitive rate.3
