Charlie soon became one of theprogram’s most enthusiastic communityproject volunteers, relishing in work at theSanta Barbara Food Bank and volunteeringat a Gatorade stand for a local marathonthat raises money for Lou Gehrig’s disease.Charlie eventually got his job back at thesupermarket and after working with theDRC on creating a resumé and applyingfor custodial positions, he learned SantaBarbara City College had hired him as anight time custodian. Between both jobs, hewas working more than 40 hours a week.More importantly, every drug test he hassubmitted to the DRC since has been clean.“This Christmas I have so much to bethankful for”, Charlie said. “I’ve got my twodaughters and I’ve got a baby grandson,Braylin.
