It is my gre<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g> pleasure to welcome you all to the <str<strong>on</strong>g>opening</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the<str<strong>on</strong>g>exhibiti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>Albert</strong> <strong>Einstein</strong>, the f<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>her <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> modern physics.Undoubtedly, <strong>Albert</strong> <strong>Einstein</strong> was <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the most influential and prominentscientists in the 20th century, well known for his theory <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> rel<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>ivity. Though manypeople regarded him as a genius, <strong>Einstein</strong> remained humble and felt he had no specialtalents but <strong>on</strong>ly an inquisitive mind.In 1905, he published three important papers th<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g> had pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ound impact <strong>on</strong> thedevelopment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> modern physics. His theories changed our understanding andc<strong>on</strong>cepti<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> space and time, mass and energy, and successfully explained gravity asa geometric property <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> space-time in his l<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>er work. <strong>Einstein</strong> was awarded the 1921Nobel Prize in Physics for his explan<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>i<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the photoelectric effect andachievements in theoretical physics. In 2005, the Historical Museum Bern <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Switzerland specially produced this<str<strong>on</strong>g>exhibiti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> to mark the 100th anniversary <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>Einstein</strong>'s "miracle year" <strong>on</strong> scientificdevelopment. Under the joint p<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>r<strong>on</strong>age <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Swiss Federal Department <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ForeignAffairs and the Chinese Ministry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Foreign Affairs to celebr<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>e 60 years <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>diplom<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>ic rel<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>i<strong>on</strong>s between the two countries, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>exhibiti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> started its tour in Chinain May 2010. After travelling to Beijing and Guangzhou, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>exhibiti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> is now <strong>on</strong>show here <str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g> the H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g Science Museum as the third stop <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> its China tour. Itfe<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>ures over 200 exhibits including original collecti<strong>on</strong> items directly c<strong>on</strong>nected with<strong>Einstein</strong>, <strong>Einstein</strong>-rel<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>ed documents, photos, videos and a number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> interactivegames for dem<strong>on</strong>str<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing various physics phenomena. Visitors will be able to gaininsight into both the life and the remarkable achievements <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the gre<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g> man in science.Ladies and gentlemen, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>opening</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this <str<strong>on</strong>g>exhibiti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> is particularly meaningful astoday marks the 20th anniversary <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g Science Museum. We are proud

to present this <str<strong>on</strong>g>exhibiti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> as a programme celebr<str<strong>on</strong>g>at</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing the anniversary.
