Cookin' on Kampeska: Wing Fling & BBQ Thing
Mark your calendars for Cookin' on Kampeska: Wing Fling & BBQ Thing July 20 & 21,
2012 at Stokes-Thomas City Park. Cookin’ on Kampeska is the Kampeska Wing Fling
revamped, reinvented and revved up!
The biggest change to the already successful family friendly event is the addition of a State
Championship Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned BBQ competition.
The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting
and enjoying barbeque, is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts
with over 14,000 members worldwide. KCBS sanctions over 300 barbeque contests coast-tocoast
throughout America. From volunteering to actual event production, members also offer
assistance to civic and charitable organizations who organize events.
With over $8,000 in prize money to be given away along with a bid to the National BBQ Competition,
Cookin’ on Kampeska is expected to draw both national and international competitors.
We will also be hosting a KCBS judging school for those who wish to get involved.
While we are thrilled with the addition of the BBQ competition, we are also ramping up the
entertainment this year with the addition of Kory and the Fireflies on Saturday night. They
have created what’s been described as “pop rock with punch.” The band also has a special gift
for connecting with the audiences and creating a magical unity at almost every show. They’ve
toured with Goo Goo Dolls, Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth and supported over sixty more national
acts including Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock and many others.
Along with these exciting new components, Cookin' on Kampeska: Wing Fling & BBQ Thing
will continue to offer a coed volleyball tournament, children's inflatables, live music, Little Miss
and Mister Kampeska contests, and of course, a wing cook-off contest. We will also be welcoming
back the SkiDox Water Ski Team from Rochester, MN for two outstanding performances.
This summer we will also welcome back the Watertown Bicycle Club for the Kampeska Classic
ride around the lake, and will be adding a DASH 5K/10K Run and 1 Mile Walk.

The trolley has returned with some new and exciting
changes! The trolley will no longer run a regular daily
route, but it will be available to reserve year-round for
special events and tours.

First Graders Experience Agriculture First-Hand
The Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee is proud to have once again "adopted"
over 350 first graders from the Watertown public elementary schools and parochial
schools on Tuesday, May 1st.
The annual Adopt the First Grade program gives first graders the exciting opportunity to
spend the morning at one of seven participating local farms and experience farm life first
hand. The first graders were able to observe cows being milked, pet and feed baby calves,
tour the barns, and learn about farm equipment. They were then treated to cookies and
milk.
The Chamber Ag Committee is always excited about this project. We feel that the Adopt
the First Grade program is an excellent opportunity to give children first hand knowledge
of the agriculture community in our area. Seeing these farm operations in person and
getting to participate in some themselves is a unique opportunity that many children may
not otherwise be able to experience.
We are so grateful for the farms that hosted
first graders again this year: Sioux River
Dairy, Schleusner Farm, MoDak Dairy,
Schweer Farm, Kranz Dairy, Fieber
Dairy, and Valley View Farm.

Watertown Mall to Add Two New National Retailers This Summer

The Watertown Mall announces that as of Monday, April 30, 2012, leases have been signed
with two new national retailers, occupying in excess of 10, 000 square feet of space combined.
Famous Footwear and RUE 21 are scheduled to be open by early August. Construction is ex-
pected to begin as early as next week.
Famous Footwear, with over 950 stores nationwide, will be occupying two combined spaces
next to Zales Jewelers. Famous Footwear is part of the Brown Show Company (NYSE:BWS), the
leading consumer driven footwear company in the country. Brown Shoe has been making and
selling shoes for over 130 years. Famous footwear will occupy just under 4,000 square feet.

Rue21, will be occupying the space next to Payless Shoes. Rue21 offers a broad assortment of
the newest emerging fashions in apparel and accessories for guys and gals. The mixed concept

As for future leasing at the Watertown Mall, Lexington Realty International will be meeting with
a number of additional potential tenants, later is month at ReCon, (The Global Retail Real Estate
Convention) in Las Vegas. The Watertown Mall is leased and managed by Lexington Realty
International, Lakewood, NJ. The property came under their management in December 2010.

Glacial Lakes Capital hosted an After 5 Social at the Redlin Art Center on
Thursday, March 22nd. Guests were able to tour the Redlin Art Center,
enjoy excellent appetizers, and witness the unveiling of the architectural
plans for the Willow Creek Village development.
On Thursday, April 12th the Chamber member businesses of Mallard
Pointe Plaza hosted an After 5 Social. Prestige Salon, Pro Cellular, L.T.'s
Liquor, Sun Tan City, and HealthSource Chiropractic welcomed guests
to their businesses and shared with them several opportunities to win
some great prizes. The lucky winner of the grand prize - a grill and summer
grill out package - was Lori Smith.

Agriculture: The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 6th at
7:00 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce.
Ambassadors: A ribbon cutting will be held at Salon 2000 located at
1414 9th Ave SE on Tuesday, May 8th at 2:00 p.m. Bramble Park Zoo will
have a ribbon cutting at 800 10th St NW on Wednesday, May 9th at 4:00
p.m. at the new Bear Crossing exhibit. On Tuesday, May 22nd a ribbon
cutting will be held at Sun Tan City at 1028 29th St SE at 10:30 a.m. On
Thursday, May 24th a ribbon cutting will be held at Edgy Chics at 9 S
Maple at 2:30 p.m. Any business that has recently opened, relocated,

Partnership with Watertown!
A partnership that began between Google and LATI as a unique new
way of mapping the campus has now expanded to include the City
of Watertown. Google’s new mapping technology involves uploading
business floor plans to map buildings city-wide. With the project still in
the developmental stages, the future possibilities are endless.
