CONSTRUCTION SITESThe Porta RangeFIRE & FLOODHow Does A Porta-Dry Dehumidifier Work?Porta-Dry dehumidifiers are fully contained, packaged units whichincorporate a fan and totally CFC free refrigeration circuit. A fan drawsroom air through the machine which firstly passes across a refrigeratedheat exchanger (evaporator) that cools and allows moisture containedwithin the air to condense. The cooled, dry air then passes across a warmheat exchanger (condenser) where it is reheated as a result of thedehumidification process before being returned to the room in a dry, warm state. Moisture removed from the air is collected in a reservoirwhere it is fed away to waste.Due to the unique nature of a refrigeration circuit, energy removed fromthe air during the dehumidification process is converted into usable heat.Typically for every 1kW of energy that a dehumidifier consumes, it willgive out 2.5kW of heat and by removing moisture from the air, rather thanheating it to high temperatures, Porta-Dry dehumidifiers will dry in agentle more controllable manner, alleviating possible material shrinkageand cracking problems associated with heating methods.Drying By DehumidificationDry air is a laboratory phenomenon. Atmospheric air willalways contain moisture, often in quantities that preventnatural ventilation from providing an effective answer todrying buildings. Whether it be during construction, afterfire or flood damage, even after a period of disuse, moisture will build up within buildings, often withdamaging consequences. These problems can bedisguised by the use of heat or ventilation (when theweather is occasionally suitable) but are unpredictable, slow and potentially energy inefficient.Dehumidifiers are the only method of positivelyremoving moisture in a controllable, efficient manner froma space, and at a speed that can be dictated to suit theapplication.During building construction dehumidifiers can be usedto accelerate the rate of drying wet processes such asconcrete floors and plaster, not only allowing theconstruction work to proceed more rapidly but in a waythat ensures the drying will not encourage cracking anddistortion. Further, concrete floors that are dried bydehumidifiers will always settle at the correct moisturelevel. Why Porta-Dry DehumidifiersPorta-Dry dehumidifiers are a British designed andmanufactured product evolved from over 25 years ofmanufacturing experience.Porta-Dry dehumidifiers are specifically designed formobile dehumidification and arebuilt to withstand the rigours ofconstruction sites and wear and tearof hire.Porta-Dry dehumidifiers aresupported by a nationwide servicenetwork and technical support teamto ensure the correct product isselected for your needs.• CFC free - Porta-Dry dehumidifiersuse R407C• Operation down to 0 o C Porta-Dry are supplied withhot gas defrost• Dual voltage - Porta-Dry can be supplied with110/240 volt option• Non-marking wheels - Porta Dry leave no tyre markson floors• Comprehensive Service Department - Porta-Dry aremanufactured in the UK and supported by 36nationwide service engineersOur product is our reputation.
