I wish for peace in our world, and comfort wherethere is not peace. This has been both a good year and a sad year in our family.Ever so good because Katie graduated from the U with her degreein Electrical Engineering! CindyCaption describing picture orgraphic. This fall has been heart breaking, as I lay my precious Friday to rest. Itreasure the 8 years and many, many miles of mountain trails we rodetogether (over 10,000 miles). I miss him deeply and profoundly. Myheart weeps. Sometimes in your life, there is magic, a deep connectionto the earth, the wind, and the sky. These have been my magical years. In June, I bought Boon, a young 3 year old paint, whom I trained overthe summer. He is now a nice riding horse, still green, but ready to takeon most trails most days. We have many miles to go...Yes, I am still workingat the U. Two weeksago my fortune cookiesaid, ‘The next fewdays will be lucky foryou. You can take achance.’ Then, the nextMonday … the hugefinancial project I havespearheaded the last2yrs went live(beautifully), a patentwas approved, agrant funded, and myclass of 68 studentsdid great on their final.LiveWire Innovation,my little companythat finds electricalfaults on live wires, continues to do awesome, and I continue toenjoy my research andteaching very much.LarryLarry’s shop continues to be his refuge amongst the sweet smell ofwood chips, and the song of his beautiful violins and violas. Hetaught Jack (wild black lab teenager) to howl when he plays, whichnow he does, most mournfully, even in his sleep. Larry haunts thetrails of Pinecrest and the Great Salt Lake marshes morning(walking Cindy) and night with Jack, Kip, Max & Ninja, who all turnthemselves inside out with glee when he shows up to take them fora wild run. When our elderly cat died this year, this prompted anupstairs remodeling project. We put down a pine floor in thewhole upstairs (study & bedroom) and cupboards & pine shelves inthe study/craft room. Larry is often found hammering/painting/gluing/digging/fixing around one of our three houses, or caringfor our family’s fleet of high mileage jalopies. His most recent additionis a 1990 Jeep Wrangler with only 237,000 miles. (Pickingme up for lunch in his last Wrangler, my students thought my husbandof 30 years was ‘my boyfriend’, which indeed, he is!) Larry’snew Stik airplane is built specifically to fly out on the nearby saltflats (kind of a bumpy landing, needs a pretty durable plane). Heis anxious for a break in the weather to take it for its maiden flight. The LuthierCoffee on Linen by Katie Furse
