Dismantling/DeplantingDecommissioning servicesDismantling/DeplantingStudsvik offer a decommissioning service that integrates the utilisation of traditionaldecommissioning methods together with advanced tooling for material sectioning, surfacedecontamination, volume reduction equipment and technology to monitor and free releasematerials. Additionally, we have integrated the on-site treatment, packaging, transportationand off-site processing of contaminated materials to further enhance the waste volumereduction and waste treatment together with our established fixed waste treatment facilities.NPP decommissioningFor more informationplease contactGeoff CarverGeneral Manager,Decommissioning0191 482 1744geoff.carver@studsvik.co.ukFor each project we provide customisedsolutions that include feasibility studies, project planning, project management, field implementation, waste management, decontamination, waste processing andhealth physics support. Our key services include:• Consultancy• Optioneering Studies• Facility Characterisation• Design, build and operate• Plant Facility Dismantling(Manual and Remote)• Heavy Lifting• Decontamination (wet and dry)• Dry Diamond Wire Cutting• Dry Diamond Coring• Demolition• Health Physics• On-site Waste ServicesA major source of waste indecommissioning is from thedecontamination of concrete buildingsurfaces. In decontamination of facilitiesit is important to consider the requirementsof removing radiological controls and exemptwaste release criteria. For this type of work,Studsvik has developed an innovative roboticapproach that can perform precise scabblingof concrete surfaces and has an integratedmonitoring capability. This ensures that thedecontamination is completed in the shortestperiod of time and that only the amount ofmaterial required to clean a surface is removedleading to substantially lower waste volumes, making significant savings for Customers.Studsvik has developed a diamond wire sawingsystem for demolition activities including thecutting of concrete, metal and concrete/metalcombinations. This system has been used in severalprojects. The latest modifications of this equipmentenable it to perform dry cutting. This provides fora cleaner cutting system, with significantly reducedrisk of spreading of contamination and easier totreat secondary wastes. We have also continued todevelop our remote dismantling activities includinginnovations in the field deployment of Brokk ROV’sto improve precision and workface productivity.

Along with our waste treatment services,Studsvik are unique in being able to offerIntegrated Clean-Up Project Delivery. Thesewaste treatment services include WasteCharacterisation, LLW/ILW Site Services,Retrieval, Metal Melting (Large Componentand Containerised Waste), Incineration,Mobile High Force Compaction, Transportand Logistics. As well as our in-house waste treatmentservices, our integrated projects capabilityis underpinned by extensive metallurgical, radiochemistry, chemistry and materialtesting using modern laboratories and hotcells including post irradiation examination.Studsvik also have extensive engineeringdevelopment facilities to undertake design,mock-ups, manufacture and assembly/testing.Studsvik are one of the maindecommissioning contractors at Sellafieldwhere we are undertaking dismantling anddecontamination of a range of historicalfuel cycle facilities.Recent and current projects undertakenby Studsvik include:• Decommissioning Framework Contractorfor British Nuclear Group Sellafield• Diamond Wire Coring of DMTR Bioshieldand Core for UKAEA Dounreay• MZFR Reactor (Karlsruhe, Germany)- Heavy water cooled research reactor, remote cutting of RPV using plasma arcunder water. Design and manufacture ofa heavy-duty overhead crane systems forhandling and dismantling of large/heavycomponents• KNK reactor (Karlsruhe, Germany) -Sodium cooled research reactor, shieldingfor RPV dismantling including shieldwindows, manipulators and transportvehicles.• WAK reprocessing plant (Karlsruhe,Germany) - Fuel reprocessing plantdecommissioning• Engineering consultancy support atUKAEA Winfrith for the Site Closure Plancovering decommissioning of SGHWR andDragon reactor cores• Decommissioning studies for UKAEADounreay• Decommissioning of redundantcomponents for DML at Devenport3.2.2 Artnumber xxxx“Studsvik provides abroad range ofoperational, technical andprofessional services”Studsvik UK LimitedUnit 14, Princes Park, 4th Avenue, Team Valley Trading EstateGateshead, Tyne & Wear NE11 0NF United KingdomPhone: +44 (0) 191 482 1744 Fax: +44 (0) 191 482 1747E-mail: sales@studsvik.co.ukwww.studsvik.com
